Ever since I saw this pic, I wanted to do a Blood Angel in the same theme. I finally got a break in the programme recently to give it a go. Pictures and recipe after the jump.

Some people are saying save it for the death company – others love it. I tried to replicate the moonlit hue on the armour and blue vampric tinge of the flesh… thoughts? A whole army?!

Cool idea. I believe this is why the angels vermillion never remove their helmets when outsiders are around.
Like the idea, they are kind of vampires IN SPACE! anyway. The result does look somewhat strange though. From afar it looks more like "I forgot to shave this morning" than undead. Maybe some gold or violet details on the pauldrons and armor?
Could you somehow cannibalise heads from vampire counts frames/characters? Great stuff! A great theme.
Try rakarth washed with carrowburg, then rakarth again highlighted to white. Looks more like a beautiful vibrant blood angel that is sick and starting to succumb. I've had success with that. But I love this fellow too!
I like the armour, it looks really vibrant, but I am not really sold on the skin tones.
I really like it. I think a whole army done like this would turn out pretty awesome, you could use it for chaos as well. I'd want it!!

needs the sharp teeth to really say "vampire"… small detail but I think it makes a HUGE difference and is the signature to the look…
The armour was based with halfords red primer oer plastic, then washed with Baal. I then highlighted with Valejjo Fire red, adding white. After a few highlights I glazed red to tone down the white.
In reply to Angelic Despot – I'm inclined to agree. It was a fun project and one I've wanted to do for a while – but I thikn a whole army would simply look… dull and listless!
I've some more test figures on the way.
Why use VMA when you don't have an airbrush?
Whoops, much like the telegraph website I have promised a title and not delivered content. Flesh recipe is celstra grey (a few coats) on face and hair. Hair was washed nuln and ten highlighted with progressively lighter shades (a deliberate monotone move to distinguish from the facial tones). Teh face was washed with purple and blue (seperately) and then highlighted, before being washed again. The eyes were washed red, then the orbs painted almost pure white.
The effects look really great, but personally I don't like the overall look/result.
The face looks more like a zombie or a ghost rather than a vampire (probably because of the ghostly hair), and looking at the figure my instinct is to be confused. Not 'wow, cool, vampire Blood Angels' but 'what am I looking at?'
It's so different to 'the norm' that it's not clear what it's supposed to be, or why this Blood Angel is dead/ghostly. Perhaps a whole army with this look, and with lots of 'undead' accessories would give it the context for it to make sense, but assuming most of the marines would be wearing helmets, I think the helmetless ones would still probably look odd.
I have got to ask how did you go about painting the skin? That is exactly what I'm looking for on my Vampire lord!
Looks cool. Might be a bit much if you use the same theme on an entire army.
