The Anatu system once belonged to the Nephusir Dynasty a millennia ago – and they’re determined to reclaim it. Recognisable by their white masks and a soft blue energy glow; these robotic land-owners would like the Imperium off their property.
I go by nicholas.painting, and I’m a commission painter from London. About eight years ago I got back into the hobby I loved as a kid – and now I get to do it as a job! The Nephusir Necrons are one of my favourite projects, and I’m thrilled to be able to talk about them a little here on Tale of Painters.

The Nephusir Dynasty
I’ve always enjoyed a Necron scheme vaguely evoking Egyptian themes – which is what I went for with this army. The bright white of the masks contrasts with the dull black of their carapace which makes it more striking – and the numerous blue baubles and pipes are lots of fun to paint and add a lot of detail to an otherwise very simple scheme.

The way I achieve the weathered look on my models is by stippling little bits of sponge onto the edges – similar to drybrushing, but stippling by instead of brushing.
A quick rundown of the paints used
Black
Abaddon Black basecoat, stippled on Dark Reaper, Thunderhawk Blue, Fenrisian Grey, wash Nuln Oil.
Blue
Sotek Green basecoat, stippled on Baharroth Blue, Blue Horror, wash wash Nuln Oil (for the baubles and pipes, instead of Nuln Oil I wash with Aethermatic Blue, followed by a couple ‘ardcoat layers).

White
Grey Seer basecoat, Ulthuan Grey basecoat, stippled on White Scar, wash Nuln Oil.
Silver
Wash Nuln Oil, followed by Agrax Earthshade. Stipple on Abaddon Black, Rhinox Hide, Stormhost Silver
Gold
Wash Nuln Oil, followed by Agrax Earthshade. Stipple on Abaddon Black, Rhinox Hide, Gehennas Gold, Stormhost Silver.
