I was definetively impressed by your black color scheme.I think it is the best of the entire web for an alien themed tyranid force. Can you give me a short tutorial step by step about it? Best regards Alessandro
I always feel like the initial reaction to a Codex is how effective the old tactics are in the new ruleset. If they don't work, the Codex is garbage. Only after people have had a deep dive into the ruleset and played a few games, does the real strength of the codex come out.
My initial reaction is, there is a good codex in there that demands you pay attention to Instinctive Behaviour for once, also, there is not stand out top tier unit, but lots of effective ones, and finding that combination is where the fun lies.
The model on the other hand is simply gorgeous and I would love to see a whole army shot as I feel they would be a really imposing site.
The site Naftka today posted that a bunch of Tyranid armies did pretty well in some tournaments. I think your completely right. The codex is pretty good once you start messing around with it.
I love the way you paint Tyranids. I remember seeing them on the GW page a year ago and was totally impressed. My only criticism is that over the last year you seem to have really let your bases go the way side, which is a real shame (here is a pic of your Tervigon and Tyrannofex to show you what I am talking about):

This model would look considerably better if you cleaned up all those "goopy" bits that overhang the edges and also gave some definition to the colours as it 100% gets lost in the colour scheme of your Tyranids. It's just something I have noticed over the last little while on the models you have posted. Regardless though it's still one of the creepiest Tyranid schemes on the Net, love it.
Funny that you pointed that out with the bases. My wife said a similar thing the other night. I think I just go through phases of doing things in a certain way. I'll keep that as word for thought and try the old base scheme on the next few models.
This is nice. The last tyranid was better. This one needs work on the mouth – outlining and more definition. At least thats how I would prefer it. I also know that you intentionally use that grittiness on the airbrush, but I can't help but think how much better this would like if you used a fine tip with a smoother transition. The dottiness or grittiness is throwing me off.
Even still, I can't deny this model. The overall effect is pretty impressive. Good work.
I agree on the models I painted, the Haruspex is better.
Opinions are funny I LOVE this one and cared very little about the previous one.
This is really one of the few tyranid paint schemes I like – you have really captured the otherworldly grotesqueness of the army. Most other schemes just look to clean and cartoony.
Hi,
That scheme is fab! IS there any chance of getting a tutorial. I would be very interested to know how you achieved such fantastic results.
That is a gorgeous paint job! How did you do the delightfully fleshy mouth and cannon end? It gives the impression of a raw wound to me. Nice! Very, very nice!
And yeah, As with pretty much every 6th Codex, after the knee-jerk pissing and moaning is done, people are finding some pretty scary lists with the Nids. Shock and indeed, horror. It's a good solid Codex that looks like it makes people play Tyranids as Tyranids!
