What’s gold, weighs a tonne and if it fell out of the sky it would kill you? My new Space Marine Captain with Jump Pack! In today’s post we’ll take a closer look at why I’m ditching my old Captain for a shiny new one, why he’s a Codex Space Marine Captain and not a Blood Angel Codex Captain, why he has a massive tactical rock and finally, we’ll check out the painting guide, so if you want to paint your own shiny golden boy stay around until the end.

Models were kindly sent to me by Games Workshop. My thoughts and opinions are my own.
It was late 2021 when I started painting my Primaris Blood Angel army. It was a handful of models from the Imperium Magazine series, including the Captain from issue 5. This footslogger never found his way into my last two games and I don’t plan on taking him for March’s big 2000pt game against Dunk.

Blood Angel Captains can’t take jump packs!
My list is mainly jump pack infantry, so a foot slogger isn’t going to cut it. Games Workshop kindly sent me the new Blood Angel Captain miniature which includes lots of options but no jump pack. Checking the Blood Angel Codex and there is no Blood Angel Captain with Jump Pack. There is a Death Company Captain with Jump Pack but he can’t lead Assault Intercessors. So, I had to use the Blood Angel Captain model, but the rules from Codex Space Marines.
Why the big rock?
The official Codex Space Marine Captain with Jump Pack is launching himself off a ridiculous stalagmite, so he’s like an inch in the air. My Captain is a gaming piece and I want his height to match the official one so I don’t receive any unfair advantage by having a smaller Captain which is easier to hide behind terrain. With my appropriately sized rock from the garden found, my Captain can longer be excused of “modelling for advantage”.
How to Paint Blood Angels Captains

I’ve already added Commander Dante to my collection back in 2023, so I just dug out his recipe card to use on my new Captain. Everything I needed for the Captain was here. The only thing missing was the base….

My irradiated wasteland of Baal base recipe I’ve covered before as well, but for completeness sake, I’ve included it here. That’s the problem when you’re nearing the end of painting an army, all the paint schemes have already been covered, however, this might be your first time reading a Tale of Painters blog post (welcome!) in which case I like to be thorough and include as much information as possible.
With the Captain ready to lead the Assault Intercessors, my 2000pt force is nearly ready to face Dunk’s Astra Militarum at the end of March. Watch this space!
