Back from my vacation, I’m working on this batch of Human players from the Blitz Bowl boxed game, the Nordland Navalists. Painting goes a bit slower than with my Orcs, but I still think they’re shaping up nicely. As I used Matt White Colour Primer for these models, those new Contrast paints from Games Workshop would have come in really handy. I’m really curious about this new paint range. Even though they’re probably “just” specifically formulated inks, I think they’re a great way to speed up painting organic details like fur, trousers or skin. Even for experienced painters. What are your feelings about Citadel Contrast? Yay or nay?
Stahly
The mysterious masked Stahly is the founder and mastermind of Tale of Painters. Hailing from Craftworld Germany, he has been walking the Path of the Warhammer Collector since childhood. Over the decades, he has painted multiple armies and countless warbands and miniatures. When he's not painting miniatures or working on his library of hand-painted colour swatches, he's testing the latest paints, tools and model kits with German precision and a no non-sense attitude.
I think the new Contrast Primers include some kind of gloss Medium / Varnish, so that the Contrast paints flow better in the recesses to shade it and keep the Highlighs light.
Just a guess…
I will definitely try the new colours.
These are looking great. The pin strip on the sock is such a neat touch.
I'm excited for Contrast. Initialy with all the promotional videos from the Warhammer Community I thought this was aimed at new painters that just want to rush their armies. That's not me. However the more I learn about them the more I'm excited. I'm always taking the base and layer paints and turning them into glazes. This will save me a lot of time using these Contrast paints and the viscosity will be consistent straight out of the pot.
