Terminator Captains lead the Chapter’s Veterans, this group of roughly 100 warriors are called the 1st Company. They are the best of the best and the Terminator Captain is is no exception, only ceding rank to the Chapter Master himself. On today’s blog post, I’ll share pictures of my finished Terminator Captain, check out how he did in a recent battle and list the parts I used to create him. There’s also a bonus comparison pic with a Blood Angel Firstborn Terminator Captain.
I’m not really into kit-bashing, my converting comes from necessity rather than a desire to have a bespoke model. It’s not that I don’t like chopping up my models, I just prefer to put my time into the paint job. However, I found myself with the new Terminator Captain from the Leviathan launch set and the new Blood Angel Upgrade Sprue. The upgrade sprue has parts for a Blood Angel Sergeant, but with a little work I thought they’d work on the Captain instead.
As you can see from the picture above, I’ve swapped the following:
- Helmet
- Chest
- Stormbolter half
- Power sword
- Tilt Shield
- Chapter shoulder pad
- Armour ornament
The power sword that comes on the upgrade sprue is left handed, so I had to chop it off at the hilt and pin it to his right hand. Also, the torso wasn’t a straight swap, it required some trimming and I had to cut out the belly plate from the captain piece and use it with the Blood Angel piece. The dead Screamer-killer on the base didn’t really fit with my Blood Angel basing, so I glued slate to a 50mm base and then used milliput to blend them into the base before covering them in sand. I used a helmet from the upgrade sprue for base decoration as well as a couple of skulls.
I painted my Captain in Terminator Armour to match my 90s inspired Blood Angel army. Super soft oranges shaded with red glazes, bright garish yellows, greens and blues. It’s all a bit much, but I think it works and the model pops like crazy.
In my recent Blood Angel posts, I mentioned I played a 1250pt game of 40k using my Blood Angels against Dunk’s Astra Millitarum. The Terminator Captain went crazy!
Using Rapid Ingress, the Captain and his Terminator bodyguard set up on the enemy’s extreme left flank near the Rogal Dorn Battle Tank. The tank turned it’s guns on the unit and wiped out the terminators completely, heavily wounded the Captain spent the rest of the battle repeatedly charging the tank trying to bring it down, alas he succumbed to his wounds and failed to bring the tank down.
I have a rematch with Dunk in a couple of weeks and the Captain will return, but this time interred inside Death Company Dreadnought being carried by a Stormraven with his Terminator squad riding inside the Stormraven… Let’s go!
Blood Angel Terminator Captain Comparison
My current Blood Angel army is my 4th Blood Angel army in the 30 years I’ve been hobbying (my first army in 1994 were Blood Angels). I quit working on my third Blood Angel army when Primaris dropped. It took until 10th Edition before I was ready to start a 10th Edition Blood Angel army and I thought it would be interesting to see a comparison between my previous army’s Terminator Captain and my new one. I love how bright and vibrant my new one is. I also love the size and proportions. The guy on the left looks like he skips leg day.
I still have more Blood Angels and I’ll be sharing those Blood Angel units I’ve painted, plus more tales from the battlefield and more painting tips, so bookmark this page and check back every Thursday!
