Hi everyone, Dunk here with a savage but focused article on one of my favorite Space Marine Chapters – the mighty Space Wolves, aka the Vlka Fenryka. It’s a great time to be a Space Wolves fan, with plenty of exciting new releases on the horizon! Personally, though, it’s a bit bittersweet for me – let me explain.
I started my collection back in 2022, during the Covid pandemic. Remember that? Feels like ages ago! I went all in, painting my Wolves solidly for years, building a large core of models that gave me flexibility in army formations. I’ve attached some of my infantry units here for you to check out.

Right now, though, I’m focusing on a new Ultramarine force, so I’ve deliberately avoided diving into the latest Space Wolves releases – though part of me REALLY wants them! Staying disciplined is key, especially when tackling a new project, rather than falling into my usual “hobby butterfly” mode, hopping between unfinished models.
The Power of Focus
That brings me to the heart of this article: focus. Hobby legends like Garfy and Stahly know the importance of staying on target, and we’ve all talked about how easy it is to get distracted by the flood of incredible new releases from GW and other gaming companies. The shiny, beautifully painted models are tempting, drawing us in with that “cool factor.”

But doing the same thing over and over can become a total yawn fest chore, right? I’ve touched on motivation for army painting in my previous articles, sharing ways to keep your army painting moving at a good pace without losing enthusiasm or quality.
At the core of my painting process are two words: focus and discipline. This hobby isn’t work – it should be fun! But setting focused goals can actually boost creativity and progress, guiding you along your hobby journey. Taking an idea from start to finish is incredibly rewarding, both in terms of hobby skill-building and the satisfaction of seeing a project completed.

Slaying the (Space Wolves) grey
We all have unfinished models gathering dust – me included! But the feeling when you finally complete a model is always worth it. Plus, the experience and practice you gain from a focused approach make each new project you tackle easier and more improved. Sure, we make mistakes– sometimes only spotting them when the model is finished (happens all the time to me) – but sticking to a hobby process with clear goals helps you improve with every brushstroke.

At the end of the day, staying focused doesn’t just get models done – it makes you a better painter. And that means the next time a new “shiny” model inspires your imagination; you’ll be more prepared than ever. Win-win!
Right then! I’m off to check that new pre-orders webpage on GW to order some Space Wolv… JUST KIDDING! Stay focused! “We March for Macragge!”
