The new Death Korps of Krieg Command Squad contains 7 miniatures on three small sprues, a Krieg transfer sheet, and assembly instructions. Apart from the Lord Commissar, who stands on a 32mm base, 25mm bases are included.

Note part 18 (an arm) is missing in this image as it got loose before photographing.

  • The Lord Commissar has two arm options. Either a pointing left arm, a right arm clasped behind his back, and an accompanying sheathed power sword. Alternatively, a power fist for the right arm, which connects to the back module, and a plasma pistol in the left hand. The pistol is separate and can be exchanged with other Death Korps hands if needed, even though the rules don’t allow for other weapons.
  • The Praefectus Militant can choose between a laspistol, bolt pistol, and plasma pistol in his right hand, as well as a chainsword, power sword, or trench club in his left hand.
  • The Veteran Guardsman Gunner has an arm pair that can be equipped with either a meltagun, plasma gun, boltgun, or grenade launcher. The corresponding backpack can be decorated with either hand grenades or grenade rounds. Alternatively, there’s an arm pair with a flamer and a matching fuel tank for the back.
  • The Alchemyk medic, vox officer, regimental standard bearer, and servo-scribes are monopose models without build options or alternate parts, however, the share the same flat shoulder contact points as the other models in the Krieg range.
  • The extra parts 74 – 81 can be used for decorating models. There is a water bottle, cup, rolled-up tarpaulin, a small knapsack, a hammer, a stowed shovel, a shovel with a skull stuck in the ground, and a mine warning sign.

The models in the Krieg Command Squad are really well designed and full of character. However, the variability is somewhat lacking. Compared to the Cadian Command Squad, although there are two more models included, the Cadian Command Squad has 25% more sprue space and offers more weapon and cosmetic options.

Death Korps of Krieg Heavy Weapon Squad review

The Krieg Heavy Support Squad comprises four models, including three gunners on 50mm bases, and a Fire Coordinator on a 25mm base. In addition to two medium-sized sprues, the box also contains a transfer sheet and instructions. Unlike the Cadian Heavy Weapon Squad (review here), the Krieg gunners do not operate as a team, but each trooper mans a heavy weapon on a mount. The design is very heavily inspired by the Imperial Guard Heavy Weapon teams from the 2nd edition of Warhammer 40,000.

  • The Fire Coordinator has the choice of two right arms, either with a map in hand, or with his hand resting on his thigh.
  • The three gunners are monopose models, but they all have slightly different poses and can be combined with all weapon mounts. There are also three freely interchangeable backpacks.
  • The three weapon mounts are identical, but there are three different stowage options that you can place on the front of the mount.
  • Each of the three weapons (twin heavy-stubber, lascannon, and heavy flamer) is included three times, so that all models in the squad can be armed equally. The lascannons have wired power packs as accessories, which lie on the base, and the heavy flamers have fuel tanks that are placed on the backs of the gunners and replace the backpacks.
  • For base decoration, there is also a shovel stuck in the ground, a stack of heavy stubber magazines, and a small wooden box.

Overall, a nice kit with an old-school feel. Thanks to the diverse combination possibilities, you can bring variety to multiple Heavy Weapon Squads, but a few more options would have been desirable for the Fire Coordinator.

Final Verdict

More fantastic models for the Death Korps. The only thing to criticise is the limited number of build options in the Command Squad.
