Managed to get the first two highlight colors (or one in the case of the black beards) done. I think the brown (first file), reddish (fourth file) and blonde (third file) are looking pretty well done. They may need another step after I highlight the rest of the areas of the models and there isn’t as much contrast. The grey and black beards will need one more highlight each before I think I will be happy with them. Yay progress!

From the picture my favorite are the red ones! Not that the rest is not good … 🙂 white beard of runelord is fantastic!
How do you keep motivated to paint these units?
I have fallen when starting a Dark Elf army (took too much on and drowned in the workload) and have now embarked on a Wood Elf force and if I am honest, I am still a little daunted at the sheer number of rank and file miniatures I've got to get through.
For me I have trouble finding motivation to do any thing but paint units. The need to make money and eat seems to keep getting in the way of my desire to become an infantry painting hermit. 🙂
I don't really know what advice I can give you on the matter. You should either feel compelled to do it naturally or likely it will be a chore regardless of inspirational speeches. Start with a small unit and see it through to completion before even looking at the rest of the army. Play some fluffy fun scenarios with the army too to get your heart into it a bit. Overly competitive play is the fastest way to kill the passion for an army. Take it a step further and write fluff and name your units … cuddle with them, take them for romantic walks … what ever it takes to build passion for them and it becomes fun again.
I wish I had the capabilities to better batch paint haha
Your beard work is quite possibly the best I've seen for rank and file. No drybrushing here! Outstanding dedication to the cause.
