This model took roughly two weeks to complete. It was a labour of love as I edge highlighted the metal trim. It was a bit tedious, but an absolute joy to paint. The model looks wicked evil and when they look this good you just want to get all the sub assemblies finished as soon as possible so you can glue the finished model together. After the jump more pictures including an army picture so far.
From above with it’s wings stretched outwards the sentient aircraft looks like a dark parody of an Aquila. Im really happy with my choice to paint the trim in three different colours. I think it’s helped break up the parts. The yellow is a much need spot colour to draw the eye in. The eavy metal Heldrakes are a confusing mass of trim.
I used my Black Legion Chosen tutorial to paint this model. It translated perfectly from Power Armoured Marine
to flying Daemon Engine.
It was important for me get the legion icon on their as well and the huge shoulder pads have eye motifs worked into them so this was perfect to represent the Eye of Horus. All I had to do was paint them yellow.
As you can see the army is small. I want to add a Rhino next for the Chosen and the Sorcerer.
Come back soon, for a special post where I introduce all my fliers in one single post. It’s quite the collection!

That yellow looks awesome and I have never seen an overhead shot of it before but you're right it does look like an acquilla!
Thanks dude. The yellow was always going to be a bit of a gamble but i think it paid off. Really draws your eye in.
Great job on these. Can't believe you don't work for 'eavy metal. MOAR!
I want to paint my models in my colour schemes. Paint for other people is the worst thing going. I did it years ago as a commission painter. The novelty wore off very quickly. it's not for everyone, that's why I have so much respect for Sigur and ThirdEyeNuke.
Very good work in such short time! An interesting idea to put a spot yellow in there tying in with the rest of the army. Absolutely brilliant edge highlights on the brassy gold. Kudos.
I also am collecting Black Legion CSM and prepared a Heldrake recently. I'd love to hear your comments on it as well!

I like your Heldrake. it's a much more limited palette than mine. I wanted to paint the trim in different colours to break up areas. I do think your one suffers from the trim blending everything together. It's still awesome though. Great work, very neat and tidy!
