Hey all, today I’m showing a Space Wolves Venerable Dreadnought that I picked up a few weeks ago on release. With this model you can also make Bjorn the Fell-Handed and Murderfang. I did consider making Murderfang but decided to go with the axe welding Dreadnought. The kit itself is fairly good as it gives you options to switch the weapon loads out fairly simply.
I spent about 2 nights painting this model and he was a lot of fun. Generally I enjoy the Space Wolves as a whole. In the next couple of days I’ll put up a Stormfang Gunship that I finished. What do you think?

Thanks a lot, we appreciate any help to continue and grow Tale of Painters 🙂
I JUST got into WH and picked SW as the army of choice. I started doing it more for the game aspect over anything else but I'm more and more fascinated by the painting except that I hadn't been able to figure out what the paint scheme would be yet. I've known for a while that I wanted it to be more grey than the GW blue but I couldn't find the right grey anywhere in my online research…until now! This is EXACTLY how I want to do my army. Thanks for this! I hope I can figure out at least a bit of how to create this magic but even just having this as a reference will be such a huge help! Thanks again and AWESOME work!
Fantastic! Love the style and the gritty feel you've accomplished.
I'm looking for a nice colour scheme for my Space Wolves and this is great inspiration.
Would you mind sharing what colours you have used for the 'Space Wolves grey'?
Oi….! Where's this tutorials!?!
Busy at the moment. Lots of commission stuff. Will do once I have a chance mate.
Haters are going to hate.
Personally, I think it's a super-cool paint job! I really like your style ThirdEyeNuke, thanks for sharing!
I love ThirdEyeNuke's style!
So original and super punchy
Thanks 🙂
WOW! I really like it, man. Great job. Would you mind sharing with us something like a tutorial about how to paint the Space Wolves in this greyish way? And I like the OSL – would love to try this on my Arjac (his shield)…a bit more info would be appreciated :-).
Keep the good work coming!
Tomas
I will do when I get a moment. I guess in a few weeks as I need to finish a lot of things off. But I'll remember to do so 🙂
I like it and I paint and play Wolves. I'm a big fan of battle damage and a gritty look as long as it doesn't overwhelm the paint scheme and I think you nailed it here.
Thanks 🙂
You can really see the paint splatter. I think you are painting these models to look all weathered and damaged to conceal the fact that you are not a very good painter. Also – the kit itself looks goofy. A real miss GW.
I've seen ThirdEyeNuke's work in person and it's excellent. A few guys at my local game club in New York have his armies and everyone is amazed at how good they look. His work is also featured a lot on GW and several other blogs. I think he knows what he doing. Other than that love the Dread 🙂
I'm actually pretty good. You should check out my work and stop hiding behind Anonymous 🙂
Stay classy, TEN!
Stay Classy Tim 🙂
Not hiding behind anything. Don't feel like registering. Your work is good for tabletop but it is obvious the models are painted as quickly as possible with minimal effort. Hence the highlights are heavily sprayed from the top, heavy sponge weathering, use of metallics + wash + dry brush when possible, and avoidance of details – gems are painted black and glossed, runes are sprayed white, blood on the weapons instead of brush work, etc. These techniques are great for doing quick armies, but your Tau, Space Wolves, and Guard looks like they all belong to the same army. I think you have the potential to be a better painter, but this would require going out of your comfort zone.
Fantastic
The dude paints this in two evenings, and you think hes not a very good painter… sure
I think its awesome. And for 2 evenings, its amazing.
I actually really like what you have done with the effect on the shield and axe. So I will have to disagree with David. Guess its all subjective. Keep up the great work. Ben
he proportions on the model are so off. These venerable, libbi, and CC oriented dread look like E.T. IMO
I am going to comment on the OSL but slightly more constructively in so much as you have obvious ambient light bleed but seem to be lacking the sharp bright illumination in the rune depths as such it seems like OSL minus the Source element but love the gritty hyper realistic look for the remainder
Fantastic as usual 🙂
Awesome! That's seriously nicely done. Can I ask what colors you used. The axe, base and shield are beautiful. Love it!!
Gw Fenris, Vallejo blue grey, field blue, luftwaffe uniform. Hope that helps.
Not a fan of the OSL, that is pretty badly done.
The metals are nice.
Sweet! Love your grey-ish wolves' scheme!
