Hey all, today I decided to show the repainted Necron Overlord that I showed a few weeks ago that I originally speed painted for my very own Necron army. With the speed painted version I had only spent about 45 minutes working on him, with this version it was more in the 7/8 hours time scale.
I think he turned out a lot nicer than what I originally did with the speed painted one. On another note I am really getting excited for the new Bloodthirster models coming this weekend. I have ordered myself 2 and hope to have them up in the coming week. Just hoping they do the same for the other chaos gods. Let me know what you think of the updated Overlord.

Hahaha 20 minutes?!? I need 20 minutes only to sit on my chair!!!
Bullshit apart, i love your style man 🙂 you already know that, "grim-dark future" is a T.E.N. sinonimous!!!
IMO a base with a different tone or color would have made the subject pop out better…or is just the angulation of the picture…or is just me 😛
That is beautiful, although I did like the original and was impressed with what could be done in 45 mins. It would make for an interesting competition to see a few painters go head-to-head and show what they could each do in a tight timeframe. Not that I'm implying that I'd like to see that happen here on Tale of Painters…not at all…
I know that at this years Salute in London they are holding a painting competition in which you only have 20 minutes to finish. I can imagine it would be quite funny.
That is really nice!
This guy looks so much better as the OSL is now believable, the added rust gives some nice colour variation along with the darker greens well worth the upgrade.
If you do decide to keep up with a cron force I'd look into more brush techniques, for non showcase models like warriors, if you can get the core metal colours down quickly with the airbrush and then do any OSL with dry brushing and a little wash you should get comparable results in far less time, probably less than a minute each.
Garfy's Skaven warlord does it brilliantly and should have you knocking whole units out quicker than this single warlord took.
For easy Rust I love GWs new technical paints as long as you have a good stippling brush the pair together can rust up models in less than 5 minutes, with batch painting you should be able to get a good finish on ten warriors in less than half hour.
I'm going to go with drybrushing for the basic troops. Necrons are really quick to do this way and then pick out the details by brush. For the rust I just use Mig pigments mixed with white spirits and Tamiya smoke.
A couple of years back I managed to paint 30 Warriors in an evening as a bet whilst watching a couple of movies and drinking a 6 pack of beers 🙂 They are very quick to do.
30 guys in an evening? I'm feeling daunted at the idea of painting 30 guys in 30 days. You speed painting seems to be far and beyond the norm.

That's something I wouldn't do again as I remember working from about 8 in the evening until about 6 in the morning. Not much fun, but it was for a friend who was in a competition.
I liked your original one but obviously this is multitudes better. Are you still doing a cron army or has the added time investment put you off?
Hey thanks for the thumbs up. I'm still going with the Necron army bit by bit.
