When I finished my 2019 painting to do list, it left me starting 2020 a little lost and confused. What do I paint now? I tried making another list but felt I was just going through the motions and didn’t actually have a reason to paint. I picked up some Deathguard but failed to finish them, I made a a fantastic start on a Genestealer Patriarch but failed to finish it. With this feeling of not knowing what to do, I took action. Find out what I did after the jump.

Well, from the pictures you can see the end result of my action. I’ve finished another 8 Iron Golems, but why Iron Golems? Well, to kickstart my hobby, I bought some Games Workshop books. I picked up Warcry 2019 Tome of Champions book and the Slaves to Darkness Battle Tome.

These publications infused me with a little bit of hobby excitement. I started to make army lists and warband rosters and before you know it my Iron Golem Warband  now has 16 fighters to choose from including all the variants.

The next logical thing to do is get some games in and that’s I did with Spaceshrimp at London’s Bad Moon Cafe.  We had such a great day of campaign gaming with Warcry that we saw some truly epic moments such as my Dominar dying in a single round of combat to the Hearteater who rolled an impressive number of Crits. Or the Drillmaster being slain in the post game roll off again and again. Any new Drillmasters are now nicknamed Cark-it (carking it, is slang for dying).

One of my favourite moments is when my slaughter priest who got tired of the tactical stand off in the centre decided to run in and use himself as bait to draw the enemy. My thinking was that 32 wounds would be too much for anyone to get through. Spaceshrimp’s Rocktusk Prowler proved me wrong and dealt an impressive 33 wounds through decent rolling and the tactical use of abilities. The Slaughterpriest was nicknamed Killroy Jenkins.

I left Badmoon Cafe that evening all excited about the hobby again. I also left with a Chimera which I’ve already painted and can’t wait to play against in a challenge battle in the hope to add it to my roster.

My early 2020 hobby plans have been scattered by the winds of change and I’m charging full steam across the Bloodwind spoils to raise an army Archeon would be proud of. I’m back at Badmoon Cafe again next week with plans to tame the Chimera. I also want to pick up the Slave to Darkness Start Collecting set to grow my army. I’m a changed hobbyist and it feels great to have some direction finally.
