Trundling on to today’s blog post are the Legion Sicaran Punisher and Arcus Squadrons. These miniature armoured tanks are armed with new deadly turret weapons that are different from their starter set equivalents. Read on to find out more, including how I painted the Sicarans.

Traversing the irradiated wastes of Tallarn, two detachments of Sicilians unleash a devastating salvo.

Models were kindly supplied to me by Games Workshop. My thoughts and opinions are my own.

In the Legions Imperialis Starter Set you get a detachment of two Sicaran Battle Tanks (check out Stanley’s review here). These Sicarans are different. The Starter Set version was a single Battle Tank detachment that allowed you to choose what turrets you wanted. This new boxed set of Sicarians are split into two additional Battle Tank Detachments: the Legion Sicaran Punisher Squadron and the Legion Sicaran Arcus Squadron.

The Punisher and Arcus Squadrons are Battle Tank Detachments and their rules are in The Devastation of Tallarn book. The Arcus is armed with a turret mounted missile launcher array, while the Punisher sports a massive rotary cannon. Each tank also has a pair of sponson-mounted guns on its sides – either heavy bolters or lascannons.

I built my boxed set as both detachments, there are enough parts on the sprue that I could have made a big detachment of 4 Punishers or 4 Arcus tanks. I’m not worried about effectiveness in games, I just like variety in my painting.

How to Paint Iron Warriors

Rusty Tracks Paint Recipe

Painting Legions Imperialis can be pretty fast. Foe me I keep it simple with a base coat, wash and dry brush. That’s more than enough for these miniature tanks. I do slow down as I have to take my time with the hand painted hazard stripes. I get asked a lot how I paint them so neatly and honestly, it’s just a decent brush and practice. Using Black Legion contrast paint instead of Abbadon Black is great too, it just flows off the brush. If you use a thick sticky paint you have to drag it across the model trying to get paint off it, that doesn’t help with accuracy.

My Iron Warrior collection is growing quite large now. Just over 3000pts painted. I’m currently working on my 4th Legiones Astartes Formation, the new Legion Heavy Assault Spearhead from the Devastation of Tallarn book, so stay tuned for a future blog post featuring those in stunning photography.
