Stormcast Eternals 2024 release wave mega review part 2

Here on Tale of Painters, we’ll be reviewing all the models from the 2024 Stormcast Eternals wave.

  • Part 1 covers the new Lord-Celestant, the multipart Reclusians, Stormstrike Palladors, and Iridan the Witness / Lord-Vigilant on Morrgryph (click here)
  • Part 2 will follow in a couple of days, it features Tornus the Redeemed / Knight-Azyros, the new Lord-Relictor, the Lord-Terminos, and the Stormreach Portal.
  • Also check out our review of Skaventide, which covers the new Liberators, Prosecutors and more (click here).

The Lord-Relictor has also been reforged for this release. He comes in a small box with a single sprue and a 40mm base. The model is monopose, so the only build option is the choice of head. There’s a spiked skull helmet and another skull helmet hidden beneath a hood. It’s a fantastic upgrade over the old model and one of my favourites from this wave. Anyone who likes the aesthetic of Space Marine Chaplains will love the grimdarkness of this sculpt.

A look at the Lord-Terminos alternate sculpt

The alternative Lord-Terminos model is another character model coming in a small box with a single sprue. In addition to the Stormcast on a 40mm base, there’s also a Memorian on a 25mm base. Both models are monopose, but you can choose between a two-handed axe or a greatsword for the Lord-Terminor’s right hand, and you can build him with or without a helmet. It’s a nice model, even if I personally prefer the version from the Skaventide box.

The Stormreach Portal unboxed

The Stormreach Portal is the first faction-specific terrain piece for the Stormcast Eternals. Once assembled, it’s a pretty hefty chunk of scenery, standing at around 21cm tall. The large box contains two identical large sprues, each building one half of the portal. The front and back are thus mirrored/identical.

The portal’s architecture matches the domicile shells from the Dawnbringer Crusades, and there are two different wall reliefs (parts 16 and 17) included for both sides as cosmetic options. You can also leave the reliefs off entirely, as the join is designed to look like a twin-tailed comet. Overall, it’s a cool piece with a good presence on the battlefield. The only downside for me is the sculpted lightning in the energy vortex; it doesn’t look “realistic” enough to me.

Final Verdict

The designs of the new Stormcast Eternals are both characterful and spectacular. They continue what began with the introduction of Thunderstrike armour in the Dominion box and was taken to the next level with Skaventide: arguably the best Stormcast models ever sculpted. Tornus looks spectacular. The Lord-Relictor is a fantastic upgrade over the old version. The Lord-Terminos is a decent alternative sculpt, and the Stormreach Portals and the sheer size of the Stormreach Portal is fitting for its colossal lords.
