Sometimes, toiling away at my desk, highlighting the hundredth Skeleton Warrior, I feel like a lobotomised servitor. Getting to paint the new Servitors from the Haloscreed Battle Clade resonated with neural implants as it was a completely new challenge. In this post, I’ll share lots of cool pictures and detail how I painted these models.

I’ve never had an interest in Adeptus Mechanicus, however, I’ve recently been painting my Dark Mechanicum for Legions Imperialis and learning about Mars in the 30k Horus Heresy setting. When Games Workshop kindly sent me Killteam Typhon, I could take a break from my other projects and give praise to the Omnissiah.

You may have already seen these models I painted, as they were on Games Workshop’s Warhammer Community website. My flashy cinematic image was used as a thumbnail in their marketing, so that was an awesome bonus. You can check it out here.

This is actually my first Killteam I’ve painted. I don’t count my Blood Angel scouts, because I built them with a 40K weapon load-out and that made them an illegal build for Killteam. I don’t know if I’ll play Killteam with this squad. If I’m honest, Killteam kinda scares me off. Every time I’ve sat down to read the rules the unnecessary complication puts me off, one example is a ‘turn’, which is called a turn in every games GW makes, is called a ‘turning point’ in Killteam. Unnecessary complication, bring back LIM, ‘Less is More’.

Anyway, enough of my old age griping, back to the Haloscreed Battleclade. I decided on a really traditional red Mechanicus scheme and painted the fabrics red and the armour pieces a different deeper tone of red. I like this, they’re clearly different, but they don’t over-complicate the paint job with a completely different colour. This allows a completely different colour like the green glowing eyes to really stand out because they’re not fighting other different colours… see I told you like LIM.

For the bases, I was uninspired. I almost did a classic Martian red, but they’re already quite red heavy. Instead, I opted to paint a sandy, gravel colour and used dried up dead looking grass tufts.
How to Paint Adeptus Mechanicus Haloscreed Battle Clade

I wanted to batch paint the Battle Clade pretty quickly, so I airbrushes every model completely with Ironbreaker and then covered them all in Black Legion +Contrast Medium heavy wash and then gave them a quick a drybrush. With all the metal work done in next to no time, I then took my time painting in all the red fabrics. Once that was done I was mostly finished. Brass was done by using a contrast paint to colourise the metal work I’d already done, that made trim and things really fun and quick. It was then at this point I settled into my old ways and slowed down and started concentrating on the details. I only wanted a quick job and ended up painting hazard stripes on tiny pipes, why do I do this to myself.
Should I paint more Adeptus Mechanicus? I kinda fancy an Imperial Knight army, maybe one aligned to the Cult Mechanicus and I could ally in this unit?
