In this ToP Tip series, I’m sharing some of my recently developed favourite paint recipes. Find out how to paint the orange armour of the Votann’s Trans-hyperion Alliance, the pale white robes of Forge World Metalica, and a quick and easy way to paint bone.
1. Trans-hyperion orange armour
This recipe applies a mix of two orange Contrast paints over white primer to acchieve a striking orange in just a single layer. Learn how to paint the rest of this Leagues of Votann Hearthkyn Warrior in this free tutorial.
Colours used:
- Citadel White Scar spray
- Citadel Magmadroth Flame / Gryph-hound Orange mix
- Citadel Lugganath Orange
- Citadel Rhinox Hide
- Citadel Fire Dragon Bright

2. Off-white Forge World Metalica robes
Polished Bone from the Reaper Master Series range is a staple in my collection. It’s the main colour of the robes of my Adeptus Mechanicus Hunter Clade Kill Team from Forge World Metalica, which I posted here. Colours used – and their closest matches from the Citadel Colour range in [brackets]:
- Reaper Master Series Polished Bone [or Rakarth Flesh mixed with White Scar or Pallid Wych Flesh]
- Citadel Rakarth Flesh
- Citadel Pallid Wych Flesh
- Citadel Skavenblight Dinge thinned with Contrast Medium

3. Skeleton Warriors bleached bone
Skeleton Warriors are a horde unit, no matter whether they are of the Soulblight Gravelords or Tomb Kings of Khemri kind. Here is a quick and easy recipe that’s using Contrast thinned down to wash-like consistency. On my Patreon you can also find a detailed masterclass tutorial for my Skeleton Warriors.
Colours used:
- Citadel Wraithbone spray
- Citadel Wyldwood thinned with Contrast Medium
- Citadel Pallid Wych Flesh
