This weekend, Warhammer Quest: Darkwater finally arrives on shelves. We’re marking the occasion by looking back at the nostalgia-fueled history of Warhammer Quest, Games Workshop’s beloved board game series that’s been luring adventurers into dark dungeons for decades. This top 5 features wo completely painted editions as well as some of our favourite characters, plus an in-depth review of Darkwater.

Without further ado, here are the best posts from over 15 years of Tale of Painters:

The release of Cursed City was rocky, but that didn’t stop Garfy from painting the complete box in his lovely style. In this post you’ll find a collected showcase of all the miniatures. What’s more, Garfy has also published free painting tutorials for almost everything: read the full post.

2. A fully painted copy of Warhammer Quest 1995

But Garfy is also a huge fan of the original Warhammer Quest game from 1995. In this post he shows you his beautifully painted (and well-maintained) copy of this Games Workshop classic: read the full post.

3. Some love for Silver Tower

Silver Tower was the first Warhammer Quest reboot in the Mortal Realms. Age of Sigmar was still young, and the game had many interesting and creative concepts when it came to the heroes. Like this Excelsior Warpriest, for example, painted by Banzai1000: read the full post.

4. Dive deep into Darkwater

Warhammer Quest: Darkwater does a few things differently from its predecessors: no more dungeon tiles, but a map book instead, and streamlined rules. If you’re not yet sure whether the new edition is right for you, we recommend our in-depth review. Alongside a look at the miniatures, we also delve deep into the game mechanics: read the full post.

There’s also an unboxing video of Darkwater in 4K:

5. And now his watch is ended

Cursed City was truly atmospheric and gave the Soulblight Gravelords miniature palette a completely new creative spin. One of Stahly’s favourite miniatures is Watch Captain Halgrim, with whom we’ll close this top 5: read the full post.
