Three new special characters join the Warhammer 40,000 roster this month, spanning three very different factions. We’re reviewing The Twin Lance, a unique dual-character release for the T’au Empire; the Tyranid Prime with Lash Whip, showcasing the updated Tyranid Warrior aesthetic; and Berehk Stornbröw, champion slayer of the Leagues of Votann. In this review, we unbox all three kits and examine their sculpt quality and build options with high-res sprue images.

The new Warhammer 40k characters will be available for pre-order starting Saturday, 7 March 2026. The pre-order period lasts two weeks, with the official release date set for 21 March 2026.

The T’au Empire can look forward to two new special characters appearing in a shared box: The Twin Lance, Shas’ri Locai and Shas’ri Lantar, are known as Exemplar Sunsear and Exemplar Scatterflare. Protected by their neocapacitor shields, they leap into close combat to deliver the Mont’ka, the killing blow, with their fusion eliminators and ion scattercannons.

The Twin Lance box contains four miniatures: two Crisis Suit-sized battlesuits on 60mm bases and two MV15 gun drones on 32mm bases. These are spread across three medium-sized sprue segments, transparent flight stands for the drones, a small transfer sheet with Vior’la Sept markings, and assembly instructions. The RRP is £67 / 85 € / $111.

The build options:

  • The visors of the battlesuits are movable and can be opened and closed
  • The two rock base toppers for the gun drones (parts 108 and 109) are interchangeable
  • The gun drones can have plain weapon systems (2x 105 and 2x 106), or you can add a left gun with sash (104) and a right gun with sash (107) as you see fit

As is typical for special characters, both Sunsear and Scatterflare have fixed poses. However, the legs, hip joint, and shoulder joints have ball joints. If you cut away the positioning nubs, you can slightly vary the body postures this way, and for example rotate the arms and hips somewhat. The legs themselves, however, are not changeable and strongly dictate the basic stance of the bodies, so the posing possibilities are rather limited. What works quite well, though, is swapping the torsos.

I think the Twin Lance models are genuinely well done. They have really dynamic poses for battlesuits, and having hero models appear as a pair is genuinely innovative. However, the price is steep when you consider that a box of Crisis Suits contains one more suit plus four more drones, and currently costs “only” £54.50.

Tyranid Prime with Lash Whip reviewed

After the winged Tyranid Prime from the Leviathan launch box, we’re now getting a Tyranid Prime sculpt with Lash Whip. The model comes in a small box with one small sprue, a 50mm base, and assembly instructions. The RRP is £27 / 34.50 € / $43.50.

The model is completely monopose with no alternative parts or poses. However, it has a really expansive pose that looks very three-dimensional in person. As with the winged Tyranid Prime, the Tyranid Warrior design has been modernized: the body posture is somewhat more upright, the musculature and segmented torso are more defined, and the carapace is sharper with more texture. After the Raveners also received a design update thanks to Kill Team: Typhon (my review here), now only a new Tyranid Warriors kit is missing.

Leagues of Votann Berehk Stornbröw reviewed

Last but not least, we have a new special character for the Leagues of Votann. Berehk Stornbröw is a champion slayer, leader of his hand-picked Cthonian Berserks, armed with his mighty pick-hammer Kromlôk’s Revenge.

The model comes in a small box and comprises one small sprue, a 40mm base, and assembly instructions. The RRP is £29 / 37 € / $47.00, quite hefty for a model that is smaller than the slightly cheaper Tyranid Prime released at the same time.

As is typical for special characters, Berehk Stornbröw is a monopose model with no build options or alternative parts. Thanks to the mighty tactical rock and 40mm base, Berehk is quite an eye-catcher. However, if you omit that, the model is Kin-typically small, making the RRP quite steep for what you get (in my opinion). The pose with the decapitated Ork head is well “executed”. However, the design would be even more badass if the Ork didn’t simply look like a regular Boy, but like a Nob or Warboss.

Final Verdict

Three distinctive character releases with varying degrees of success. The Twin Lance stands out as the most innovative, offering dynamic poses and the novel concept of paired heroes, though the premium price will give some collectors pause. The Tyranid Prime successfully modernizes the Warrior aesthetic. Berehk Stornbröw is characterful but suffers from typical Kin scale issues and a price that feels inflated for the model's actual size.
