Hey there, I’ve finished the first batch of Rangers. They took quite a while to finish, almost two weeks. Most time-consuming were definitely the cloaks, as they involved a lot of blending and layering. Really love those sculpts. How do you like the paint scheme? I wasn’t quite sure about the beige cloaks and the camo first, but now I think they are alright. I really like how the leather turned out. I used a basecoat of VGC Dark Fleshtone, washed with Warpaints Dark Tone Ink (like old Badab Black) and highlighted with old Vermin Brown and the new Deathclaw Brown paint from GW. Now another three models to go.

Sorry, I accidentally marked it as spam when I wanted to click at the link^^ I like the painting, but I think that all the colours are a bit dull. Maybe try glazing the yellow with Lamenters Yellow, or use a more vibrant blue for the helmets. You should always have at least one or two bold, eye-catching spot colours on a model.
Cheers Stahly. I have actually done a coat of lamenters yellow already but then the matt varnish took the edge off. Maybe i should varnish before my glaze coat?? It doesn't look quite as dull as it is in the photo though but i'll give it a go either way. Cheers for the advice.
Stahly, how would you apply your spot colour theory to a craftworld like Ulthwé?
As the main colour is black, I'd say use a warm cream for the bone (e.g. Ushabti Bone with a Seraphim Sepia wash) and a bold red or purple as a spot colour for ribbons, cloaks, gems, e.g. so your models won't look too drab.
Our thoughts aren't too dissimilar then 🙂 Although I try and work a bit of yellow in there as a little throwback to 2nd Edition Ulthwé.
