Stahly
The mysterious masked Stahly is the founder and mastermind of Tale of Painters. Hailing from Craftworld Germany, he has been walking the Path of the Warhammer Collector since childhood. Over the decades, he has painted multiple armies and countless warbands and miniatures. When he's not painting miniatures or working on his library of hand-painted colour swatches, he's testing the latest paints, tools and model kits with German precision and a no non-sense attitude.
Showcase: Skavenslaves with Hand Weapons
Here they are, proper pictures of the full unit of Skavenslaves. There are 25 slaves, I know most people tend to field them in bigger numbers, but painting 25 models was already hard enough for me. I built the unit of unarmoured bodies from the...
Fire Dragons primed and ready
So I’ve finished assembling the Fire Dragons and Yriel. Yriel was tough, both arms needed pinning which wasn’t easy because his arms are pretty thin. Maybe Finecast wasn’t too bad an idea at all? Well, then I look at his thin staff and how long...
Eldar Fire Dragons assemble!
As announced, a short break from painting Skaven. For my Eldar army I’m going to paint up a box of Fire Dragons and Prince Yriel. I’m glad I got them in good old bubble free metal before they were finecasted. Currently I’m assembling them which...
Warlock Engineer with Doom Rocket finished!
I’ve finished up the Engineer. Usually I don’t convert much apart from some bitz swapping, but I’m quite happy how he turned out. More and better pictures soon, together with the Skavenslaves. Next I will take a small break from painting Skaven and add some...
Scratchbuilt Warlock Engineer WIP
I started painting the Doom Rocket armed Warlock Engineer I converted a while ago. He is almost done, apart from some details. Painting went pretty smooth, I enjoyed spending some time on a Skaven model that doesn’t come in batches of five… 😉

Skavenslave unit finally done!
I’ve just finished the fifth and final batch of my unit of 25 Skavenslaves. This is front rank as you can guess from the musician. Now I just need them to hit with a coat of varnish and take a group shot. How do you...
Review: The Army Painter Warpaints
We at Tale of Painters are probably the first to review the brand new Warpaints range from The Army Painter. We got our hands on a good selection of paints to put them to the test, including regular paints, metallics and inks. Recommended by none...
Skavenslaves 5th batch started
Is it just me, or do my blog posts all look the same lately? Don’t worry, the end is nigh. This is the fifth and final batch of Skavenslaves, as you can see, it’s the front rank with a musician. I did a good amount...
Skavenslaves 4th batch finished!
Hey guys, I finished another batch of my never-ending pile of Skaven models. Now I’ve painted up 20 from 25 Skavenslaves, which means only 5 more models and yet another unit is done! How do you like the models above?
