This weekend sees not only the release of Spitewood, the new expansion for Warhammer Underworlds, but also the reissue of 16 classic warbands across four four-warband bundle boxes. So, the perfect occasion to dig through our archives and put together our five best paint jobs from the reissued warbands for you.
Review: Warhammer Underworlds: Spitewood
Following the reboot of Warhammer Underworlds with the current second edition, the first expansion now arrives after the Embergard starter set and the individual warband boxes. Warhammer Underworlds: Spitewood shifts the setting to the Realm of Life, Ghyran, into the eponymous Spitewood forests. It includes two new warbands and Rivals decks, as well as a new Ghyran-themed board featuring a fresh hex mechanic. Let’s take a closer look at the contents – and, most importantly, the models.
Tutorial: How to paint Helsmiths of Hashut Muspelzharr
Recently, I painted a Championess of the Infernal Cohort of the Helsmiths of Hashut. For this, I chose the black, gold, and yellow of Muspelzharr. In this step-by-step tutorial, I’ll show you how you can easily replicate this.
Showcase: Helsmiths of Hashut Muspelzharr Infernal Cohort Champion
The Helsmiths of Hashut are on the march, and now they’ve invaded Tale of Painters as well. For the Community Showcase on Warhammer Community, I submitted this unit champion of the Infernal Cohorts, depicted poised on a rocky outcrop with a two-handed Hashutite blade.
Review: Helsmiths of Hashut army set
In the Hour of Ruin, the Helsmiths of Hashut have set out from their ziggurat fortresses to conquer the peoples of the Mortal Realms. This army set doesn’t just introduce a long-anticipated faction, it reimagines the legacy of the Chaos Dwarfs with a fresh yet recognisably sinister aesthetic. In this review, we’ll take a close look at the sprues of all the new models, and also leaf through the very first Helsmiths of Hashut battletome.
Showcase: Nighthaunt Lord Vitriolic
Here’s my take on the new Nighthaunt Lord Vitriolic. Once a charlatan who peddled miracle cures, medicines, and tinctures, he is now cursed to serve Nagash for all eternity as a master of poisons. In this showcase post, I share detailed pictures from every angle and explain how I painted the smoke effect.
Tutorial: How to paint Stahly’s purple Nighthaunt
In this tutorial I’ll show you how I paint the iconic purple-grey white of my Nighthaunt models. Using an airbrush and zenithal layers, the whole process is super quick and gives a wonderfully three-dimensional finish. After all, being Nagash’s thrall for all eternity is one thing – painting an army for all eternity is quite another.
Review: Nighthaunt Lord Vitriolic & High Falconer Felgryn
This month, the Mortal Realms welcome two distinctive new characters – one haunting, one deranged. The Nighthaunt’s sinister Lord Vitriolic and the Flesh-eater Courts’ beast-bonded High Falconer Falgryn both arrive with new battletomes and Spearhead box sets. I’ve taken a closer look at both kits to see how they measure up in the flesh – or ectoplasm.
Review: Idoneth Deepkin Manifestations, Mathaela & Ikon of the Sea
Get ready to dive deep – the latest Idoneth Deepkin releases are almost here, and we’ve taken a close look at the upcoming wave of models: the Manifestations, Mathaela, Oracle of the Abyss, and the Ikon of the Sea/Storm. In this unboxing and review, we present high-res images and explore the build options – particularly the dual-build nature of the Ikon kit. Here’s what you need to know for expanding your Age of Sigmar collection.
Showcase: Spearhead: Sand and Bone terrain (inc. painting guides)
The rerelease of the Realm of Death terrain for Spearhead: Sand and Bone was the perfect opportunity for me to make a few enhancements to my set from Warcry: Crypt of Blood. In this showcase post, I’ll show you the changes I made.
