The last few days I have been desperately trying to complete a couple of commission for a customer who is going to be giving them away as present to friends. So I’m looking forward to having them completed hopefully before the time this post is published. All I can say is the models are not something that I normally paint. Above I’m showing the Hunter which is one of the new models sets for the Space Marines that I picked up a few weeks ago with 2 boxes of Centurions. I’ll show the Centurions in the next post.
I quite liked the Hunter model, I always enjoy painting vehicles and to be honest it was the first time I painted something in a Ultramarine scheme. The kit itself is generous enough to allow you to build both variants. If you do this the only part missing on one of the variants will be an antennae. But I think for the price its quite nice to be getting 2 models really. Let me know, did you pick up the new Space Marines model?
Hey thanks Garfy :). I think its the first time in a while that I used GW paints for most of the model as I usually use Vallejo. And I must say I enjoyed using the colours GW has. They have very blues.
I meant they have very nice blues 🙂
This model really suits your style so well done – looks as good as any of Garfy or Stahly's Ultras.
What technique have you used around the vents towards the front on the flank (just above the skull) – it looks like staining running down – is it just a wash, powders, some thing from AK??? Looks really effective at conveying grime etc.
It was thinned down burnt umber oil paint from Windsor and Newton.
when you say there's enough bits to build both variants, do you mean given a spare rhino you could end up with both the hunter and stalker?
If you had x2 rhinos you would be able to add the top hatch weapon for both the hunter and stalker. One would be a hunter and one would be a stalker. But you would only have enough armour parts that make the hunter/stalker rhino look different than a regular rhino on one of them. Its just the weapons and the hatch parts that you attach on top of the rhino that you get. Not extra armour. Hope that makes sense.
I just added another photo so that you can see what you get. I think its easier to see that way.
perfect. At least it's fully modular and you're not stuck having to buy another piece to be able to get more mileage out of the kit (i'm looking at you fire prism)
Thanks for the photo!
is the antenna important
