Kicking off my Kill Team/Necromunda terrain collection, I painted a set of STC Ryza Pattern Ruins. Check out some more atmospheric pictures after the jump.
The ruins were primed with black primer, then sprayed with a zenithal highlight of Incubi Darkness. For the grime, I washed thinned Rhinox Hide and then Formula P3 Bootstrap Leather into select recesses. Then I drybrushed with Incubi Darkness, Thunderhawk Blue, followed by Screaming Skull. Finally I added a sponge weathering effect by applying black and Army Painter Gun Metal (Leadbelcher). The paint scheme was inspired by the dark turquoise tiles found on the Kill Team Sector Imperialis board.
The Ryza Pattern Ruins set comes with two copies of two different sprues, unfortunately, the third sprue with the larger ruin from the Moonbase Klasius set is not included. Which means you get lots of similar looking structures. But the ruins build and paint quickly and look great along the classic Necromunda bulkheads, which I will paint at a later point.
For more variety, I painted a couple of pieces with a black paint scheme and added some leftover parts from the Alchomite Stack set. The black was painted the same way as the turquoise, but I skipped the zenithal highlight stage and went straight to drybrushing with Mechanicus Standard Grey and Screaming Skull.

Just as a comment on the sprue distribution, I was very relieved to see that KZ: Sector Fronteris comes with two of the third sprue. As far as I can tell, the reason is just because that third sprue can't really be split in half, so it needs the "A4" box, and they didn't want that much shelf space for a US$30 Terrain kit.
Great job as usual. Might have to steal that paintjob! But as Garfy said, I think the pictures really look ace, and have done more to sell this kit to me than GW's. Just one question, are they this bluish IRL? Given that the base was Incubi Darkness (I haven't used it but I thought it was more green-ish). Is it because of the Thunderhawk Blue?
Incubi Darkness is a very dark Turquoise leaning towards green, while Stegadon Scale Green is a very dark Turquoise leaning towards blue. Being turquoise means there is quite a bit of blue in the paint, but I guess it might be the background and camera settings (and maybe your display settings) that might make it appear a bit more blueish than it might be in real life.
Love it. Really good mate. That first picture should be in WD magazine!
