Today, I’m showcasing the first half of my Age of Sigmar terrain collection. I’ve painted the Azyrite Ruins from the original Warcry starter box, if you remember those. You’ll find pictures, colours, techniques, and my thoughts on them in this post.
For the colour scheme, I chose warm greys. Terrain needs to be done quickly. I started with a base coat of Colour Forge Hyrax Brown (similar to Rhinox Hide), then airbrushed Vallejo Game Air Neutral Grey and Stonewall Grey, finishing with a drybrush of VGC Stonewall Grey and Reaper Master Series Leather White.
Here’s a tip to help your terrain blend even better with the board: paint the lower part of the terrain darker, ideally by drybrushing it with a similar colour to the board.
As you can see, the neutral warm grey complements the Warcry Red Harvest game board (check out Garfy’s beautifully painted set here), as well as the grey and green board from the Warcry starter set. It also looks quite good on the Fire & Jade Spearhead board, which features Aqshy on one side and Ghuran on the other.
How to paint Azyrite ruins
For your reference I put together a post with all the paints and techniques I used for painting the Azryite ruins from the original Warcry starter set:
Hope this helps, so bookmark it for later. With my new colour scheme finalised, it’s now time to paint a complete set of ruins. You’ll soon be able to see my entire Warcry board here on Tale of Painters, so stay tuned.
