Flicker-jumping his way through the webway, this Exarch of the Warp Spiders aspect shrine materialises in realspace. Celebrating the replacement of the oldest Aspect Warrior sculpts in the Eldar range, I grabbed one of the new plastic models and painted it to match my Craftworld Ulthwé collection.

The new plastic Warp Spiders are my favourite models from the new Eldar release wave, which I’ve thoroughly reviewed here. Even though my Eldar collection is currently on the back burner, I had to paint at least one of the fantastic new models. I chose the Exarch (as well as the shrine token), armed with a spinneret rifle and deathweavers. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to finish the model in time for the Warhammer Community article, but here it is.

For the painting, I followed the colour palette that I developed for my large Craftworld Iybraesil collection and then adapted for my small Ulthwé collection. Black and red are the traditional colours of the Warp Spiders, and black goes perfectly with Ulthwé. I interpreted the red more as a magenta, the base colour is Wazdakka Red, shaded with Two Thin Coats Amphora Red (Gal Vorbak Red), from wave 3 which we tested here). For the highlights, I chose Two Thin Coats Hot Pink (Pink Horror) and Vallejo Game Color Squid Pink (Fulgrim Pink).

The coral accents on the helmet are Vallejo Model Color German Orange, shaded with Ionic Light Red, and highlighted with Fuegan Orange and Vallejo Model Color Skin Tone.

You can grab the complete step-by-step tutorial for my Ulthwé scheme here in my Patreon shop (or by becoming an Autarch tier member). I also have a tutorial for painting Striking Scorpions in a matching paint scheme.

I’ve also recently painted a few of the plastic Striking Scorpions, so together with my Howling Banshees and Dire Avengers, I have enough models for a Blades of Khaine Kill Team. I’d like to expand my Craftworld Ulthwé collection, but I’m currently lacking inspiration for a goal. Maybe there will be a new Combat Patrol for Warhammer 40,000 in White Dwarf that has Aspect Warriors as a theme.

Until then, I’ll dedicate myself to some other projects. I want to take part in the New Year Challenge, with the goal of diving into the new edition of Warhammer Underworlds. For this, I’m painting Zikkit’s Tunnelpack, feel free to follow me on social media for the latest updates.
