Kicking off my New Year #WarhammerChallenge hobby bingo for the first quarter, I’ve been eager to paint the more of the fantastic new Skaven models. First up from Zikkit’s Tunnelpack is the mad mastermind Zikkit Rockgnaw himself!
Earlier this year, I’d set myself the goal of taking part in the New Year #WarhammerChallenge and completing at least one row of the hobby bingo in the first quarter. Having had to finish Horus’ base first and wanting to paint one of the fantastic new Warp Spiders models, I now need to get a move on.
My aim this year is to dive into the new edition of Warhammer Underworlds, having enjoyed playing the first edition in its digital form a lot. As I’m a total fan of the new Skaven models, Zikkit’s Tunnelpack from Warhammer Underworlds: Embergard (which I reviewed here) was perfect for this.

First off, I grabbed Zikkit Rockgnaw. As the leader of the warband, I can already tick off the box for character models on the bingo card with him. With his open pose and massive warpfire thrower, the model was great fun to paint. I also made a point of taking the time to paint the puddle at his feet as a toxic green glowing warp energy.

How to paint Zikkit’s Tunnelpack
Zikkit was painted in the same colour scheme as my Clanrats test models from Skaventide. I used a combination of a zenithal basecoat, Slapchop-style basecoats with Contrast paint, and additional layers and highlights. I explain this in detail in this free Skaven step-by-step tutorial:
Now that Zikkit’s finished, I have a direction for the rest of the warband. March isn’t far off ending, and I’m hoping to show you the rest of the warband next week. Did you also take part in the #WarhammerChallenge this year? After all, there’s £100 worth of virtual gift vouchers to be won, and the next prize draw is tomorrow on March 26th!
