I’ve been distracted this month painting models from the Hobbit range but I have finally found time to revisit my Black Legion and complete my first Chaos unit for my new army. This unit is ridiculously busy. It’s really cool of Games Workshop to make these amazing plastic models with incredible amounts of detail but they really did put the pain in paint to complete. Read on to see close ups of the last two models I painted.
To complete the squad I only had to paint the sergeant and the bolter marine. I followed my own tutorial because I’d forgotten which colours I had used for a few steps.
This is the rear shot, I really like the tentacles holding the bolter to the back pack. They’re even reloading the bolter.
Not sure what I should work on next for this army. The Helbrute or the Cultists? Oh well, back to the Hobbit models for now.

These turned out fantastic as a full squad, I was debating painting mine as Word Bearers but you've swayed my decision to go Black Legion on your paint scheme alone.
I really like that cape! Nice blending and shading.
The paint jobs on these guys is incredible. I love the colour scheme and the overall tone. Makes me want to get the DV set just to paint the figs. The only thing that isn't working for me are the bases. Normally your models have such awesome base work while these guys almost look like their bases were just painted brown with not much else done to them (I know that isn't the case. Still, only a very minor complaint to an otherwise great set of figs 🙂
I'm in total agreement with you on the bases. This is the MKII version of the base and Im not really happy with it still. I think I might rip them off and just do desert bases to match my Ultramarines, Dark Eldar and Necrons.
Just wondering, how did you do the eyes on the armour/weapons and the skin on the champion?
The eyes on the armour are as simple as red, orange, yellow then black vertical slit. The skin Cadian Fleshtone, shaded lightly with watered down rhinox hide, then highlighted up with Rakarth Flesh and final highlights of Rakarth + Pallid Wych.
