More pictures and some thoughts after the jump.
In the shot above you can see how my Cryptek overshadows my Necron Overlord with his elaborate conversion and massive blade. I think the Cryptek has ambitions to overthrow the Overlord. If I changed the Cryptek’s head and gave him a metal segmented cloak he’d make an awesome Overlord.
I came up with this conversion for this month’s GW store painting competition. I won last month, so I got to choose the the contest theme which I decided would be an open competition but the entries had to use at least one of the new technical paints. My Cryptek uses, Typhus Corrosion, Ryza Rust, Nihilakh Oxide, Blood for the Blood God and Agrellan Earth.
As this is a miniature painted for a competition I took some time and added some advanced techniques such as the blade on the staff and the glow effects on the orbs. These are nice touches which I hope will help me win the competition.
What do you think of the model? Tell me in the comments below.
Its really nicely done. Cool stuff 🙂
Ah, thanks a mil – I was aware of the paint recipe, but must have missed the WIP one somehow. Cheers mate!
No worries dude.
What are the bitz you used for it? I can't figure out what the basis of the figure is. It can't be the finecast Cryptek…? Again, absurdly great conversion.
Always check out my previous posts. I tend to detail everything.
This link will show you the WIP including all the parts.

I have loads more necron posts. Check out the list of labels to the right.
Absolutely love it. Itching to paint some Necrons myself.
I know the feeling of putting off people from entering, at our local store, the chap who won prior to the last competition chose 'No Space Marines' as the subject, there were three entries. Which I guess is a little down to the state of our 'local meta', it was even derided as 'restricting the hobby'
The model does look very impressive though 😛
Our last competition winner choose cavalry and as I mentioned it was pretty quiet. I'm pleased I won so I could alter that. I think there are 7 or 8 entries that I know of so far for the "Technical Paint" theme. This makes me happy.
Did the Agrellan Earth turn out better this time? Can't see any cracking effect.
Yes, new pot worked out fine.
Very nice work as usual, it's always a pleasure to see such detail on a model.
I wonder though, doesn't displaying your competition piece before the judging beginss counterproductive? Of course I assume you haven't submitted it yet 🙂
Yeah but I'm not bothered. It's a public Facebook vote so you can't take the competition too seriously. The person with the most friends could potentially win it.
I am not sure how counterproductive it is – people may see it and love it and then spot it in the comp and feel they have to vote for it…
Great job by the way!
I'm more worried about putting people off from entering. I like a nice big painting competition. Last month the store heat was only 2 people and I was 1 of them.
