Hey guys, I’ve finished the Mk4 Blood Angels test model (a tutorial will be due soon) and started assembling and painting a squad of Rangers for my Craftworld Iybraesil. These models are quite old, they were released back then along with the Cities of Death expansion, but I think they are still amongst the best sculpts in the Eldar range. I went for beige cloaks that will get subtle camouflage later on. I think camouflage is hard to pull off – if you overdo it, it does what camouflage is supposed to do and distorts the shape of your model. So for an eye pleasing paint job, camouflage needs to be subtle. Let’s see if I can pull it off, I’m not sure at the moment. Maybe it would have been better to just go for simple black or brown leather cloaks?

Look really good , would love some of those to convert into shades for my Dark Elves
Sure… I basecoated the cloaks with Khemri Brown, then layered Zandri Dust, leaving Khemri Brown the deepest recesses. Then I mixed Formula P3 Jack Bone with Vallejo Glaze Medium about 1:1 and blended the highlights. Finally I used Pallid Wych Flesh for a final sharp highlight. Hope that helps.
Thank you! Off to buy some Jack Bone (never used anything but GW and vallejo before) and give this a go.
It's a nice cream colour, not as greyish as Rakarth Flesh/Dheneb Skull and not as yellowish as Bleached Bone/Ushabti Bone. Coverage is nice, too.
Amazing cloaks. Tutorial (or at least a quick note on colours used) please!
They look really nice, the Rangers are some of my favorite sculpts in the Eldar line. The cloaks are pretty ace too, I know when I painted mine, I kept the cloaks the same colour as the bases by using the same colours in order to give the hint of cameleoline.
Looking great so far – how did you do the cloaks, love that colour!
They look epic already 🙂
