The first three Fire Dragons are finished (apart from varnishing of course). I really like how they turned out. In my display cabinet they add a welcome splash of colour to my Iybraesil collection. Now onto the the second batch on the right. The head crest of the Exarch will be painted brassy, this should make him really stand out amongst his peers. I also think about adding a melting/glowing metal effect to the tank tracks he is standing on. Not sure yet. What do you think?

Stahly hails from Craftworld Germany and has been involved with Warhammer since childhood. He has painted several armies and countless warbands and Kill Teams over the decades, and founded Tale of Painters in 2011. When he's not painting miniatures incredibly slowly, he's testing the latest paints, tools and kits with German precision and a no non-sense attitude.
I am by no means a pro – but I think the orange looks fantastic on the entire armour.
It seems to make the other colours pop more – the weapons and the blue really look stunning and a lot more pronounced. Another colour on the helmet would probably make the models look far too busy particularly with the bright orange.
Unique, bright and dangerous looking – beautiful minis…colour me jealous – Edd
I dig the mass of orange. Definitely looks like a hot piece of charcoal that just got blown on.
Yeah I knew the orange helmets would stir some controversy. However almost everyone paints their Fire Dragons with a contrasting helmet colour (probably because Fire Dragons are the most "basic" looking aspect models), so I wanted to do something else. I'll leave them the way they are for know. Cheers for the feedback though 🙂
If they represent fire, flames are darker at their tips. May be you could consider this in your colour scheme.
They look really nice, but I have to agree with Gareth R. that the helmets being orange (as well) isn't a winner. Too much orange. I like the yellow helmets as a break of the orange suits, though still being a similar colour. I know you don't want to paint them yellow though, so maybe an other colour? Gold or brass probably will work, but then your exarch won't stand out of course. Food for thought?
I really like the finish on the orange armour.
I am not sure about the helmets being orange as well, but i am not sure what colour would work
The melting, glowing effect on the tracks so work really nicely.
