Hey all, today I thought I’d show the beginnings of a Eldar Wraithguard army I’m working on as a commission. I wish it was mine as I really like all the models. The client asked for the models to be painted in the same color scheme as I have painted a few Wraithknight’s and Wraithguard’s that I showed several years ago.
I’m painting these guys along with the Verminlord and Thanquol at the same time and it’s a lot of work, but also a lot of fun. Painting large armies is something I have really got used to as I do it pretty much full time. The hardest thing though for me is the assembly side of it. Putting together this many models in one can be tough work, so I usually have films, tv shows and music blasting in the background to keep me entertained. After I finish the Eldar models I will be working on a non warhammer model, a giant Japanese robot. The robot is a huge figure standing at 3ft tall. You can see from the photos how big the box is. How do you all deal when putting large amounts of models together?
I've found converting models makes assembly more fun, though it does make it longer!
I love converting stuff when I get the chance as well. Had a lot fun making up some Plague Marine Champions over the Christmas holidays, Thinking about doing some Blood Angels for Dante/ Mephiston or the Sanguinary at some point.
Sounds great, make sure you share them if you do! Please 🙂 At the moment I am in the middle of a very long project (years long, literally due to me not having much hobby time whilst a did teacher training!) where I'm trying to convert most if not all models in a Tyranid army. Am really enjoying it and am pleased with the results so far. Keep meaning to put some pictures up on the internet at some point if I can get some nice shots taken of them.
Ah awesome! 😀 looking forward to those 🙂 and didnt realise that was your wife lol, though that was you 😛
Lol, no she just does the videos. I stand in the background saying do this and that. It works quite well as it's like teaching someone who doesn't know and if she does it right then it's good and the video works. Personally I suck in videos as I get camera shy.
Will you be releasing anymore video tutorials on painting like yourself? 🙂 I'd happily pay a load of money for such content
Hi, we will. It's my wife that makes them. I know she is planning some for February as she's overloaded with work at the moment.
Assembly is the part I like, especially tanks.
Vehicles are best 🙂
Does Liev Schreiber own some of your models painted? As I have seen him many times in the Kensington store and the models look like yours? Dont answer if you cant. Ken
Yes I did, but more so for his son's Chaos Daemon's army. I know him from Kensington when they filmed Diana with Naomi. His son play's, he doesn't.
The box for the Neo zeong looks awesome.
I actually look for people to commission to JUST do the assembly…that's how much I hate removing mold lines. 🙂
lol 🙂 I have paid people as well in the past if something is going to take forever 🙂
It's a tough one. Assembly is slowly becoming my least favourite part of the whole process. I tend to put a podcast on, usually from doubletoasted.com, or listen to a MWG sit and talk. Either way, I just try and take my time and get the assembly right. Any cock-ups with removing mold lines, filing or glue really show when you start to paint.
In fact, do you have any tips for mold line removal?
I use a scraper and tend to fill gaps etc with Tamiya putty. It's nasty toxic stuff. Also use GW green stuff liquid.
excited to see you do this eldar commision! 😀
what are the colours you use for the armour out of interest? and the turqoise light effect? really interesting stuff!
might have to send you some models myself ^_^
The blue is a paint from the P3 range called Arcane Blue. I'm still trying to work out which paints I used for the general colour as I painted the original Eldar a few years ago. But will post once I get it exactly.
