So here’s a Pre-Heresy Land Speeder painted in Salamanders colours and with some iconography added.
This is an interesting one as on this model we get rounded shapes which he pretty much hadn’t seen on Space Marines hardware since the early 1990s. I mean the thing looks like a muscle car already, so I thought it would be fitting to paint is in a way that it may be featured in a car magazine as well. That also was the reason why I kept battle damage to a minimum.
Come to think of it, maybe I should have presented these pictures in a kind of Top Gear homage way. Oh well. Anyway, back on topic. Yeah, it was fun painting this fella.
I didn’t build the model, so I don’t know how easy or hard that was. I do get questions about how hard it was to build, so I assume the kit may have a reputation.
What I did do was that I added quite a substantial pin to the flying base to keep the model from wobbling around and to give the flying stand a bit more resilience. The model does weigh quite a bit. Of course the base isn’t glued to the model.
So yeah, I hope you like the model. I certainly do. 🙂

Thanks very much for the comments!:)
@ALLISTAIR JENSEN: Regular freehand painting with lotsa layers. The usual way.
@ANDREW KENNEDY: Thank you. 🙂 The work on the stand wasn't really required, but the hole on the lower side of the landspeeder was a bit large for the nub on the flying stand so I put a pin into the nub, drilled a depper hole into the hole on the Landspeeder to give it a tighter fit. Do it, get yourself this model. It's really, really nice.
Outstanding work!!!
Lovely model and stunning paint job. I particularly like the light hitting the upper surfaces effect you have done.
Incidentally when you say you have upgraded the stand what work was required? Im considering buying one of these for my next birthday present to self1
Looks great!
There's something about the Salamander's use of Green and Orange colors that feels like a wrong combination to use for me, but on this vehicle it doesn't look as bad.
Stunning work man, looks the nuts!
Can you do a Top Gear article for your next vehicle? IN THE WORLD…
This is really nice work, I love the highlights!
I like the flames too, seems like a lot of work. How do you do it?
Great paint job! I don't think I like the shape of vehicle…
The more I look at it though.. It's growing on me. To me it has that sort of '50s American Hot Rod look with the flames on it. I think I like it now.
