Redgrass Creative’s Definitive Edition of their popular RGG360° painting handle will launch on Kickstarter on March 14, 2024. The campaign includes new XL caps and pinning cork inserts, available on their own or in combination with the existing handle in various bundles for various pledge levels.

Update July 2024: The Kickstarter has been successfully fulfilled, and the new caps and accessories are now available in retail and on Redgrass Games website.

RGG360 Definitive Edition: XL Caps review

The RGG360° is a popular painting handle seen in use by many professional and renowned painters, not least because of the 360° rotation feature, which allows for access to every angle of a miniature. We’ve already reviewed the painting handle in a previous post, so feel free to check it out here.

Comfortable even for smaller hands: the new XL caps

The Kickstarter supplements the popular design with new interchangeable caps in XL format. These caps are curvier, longer, and larger, perfect for larger miniatures and painters with bigger hands. Like the previous caps, you can easily attach them to the handle; the connection is the same. Even with my rather small hands, I found the extended shape to be more comfortable. Thanks to the wider diameter, you can securely fix miniatures with 40mm and larger bases with the included mounting putty. And I find that the XL caps also feel quite good in the hand even without the handle.

If I had to criticize something, it would be that I would have liked a finger rest, like the one on Garfy’s Get-a-Grip Pro handles, for example.

Also new are the cork inserts. These self-adhesive cork discs fit both the original caps and the new caps. The XL caps, however, feature a stabilizer hole in the middle, allowing heavy pinned components to be securely fixed.

Value

Of course, the question arises whether a Kickstarter is really necessary for the realization of a small plastic part and a cork insert. However, compared to buying individually, you can save money with the pledge levels. For example, the upgrade kit with 4 XL caps starts at 6€, or the 5-in-1 set with handle, regular cap, 4 XL caps, and mounting putty starts at 20€.

Pros

  • XL caps and pinning cork inserts add more versatility
  • Better support for larger models
  • More comfort for both small and larger hands

Cons

  • Still no finger rest option
  • A Kickstarter for just two small accessory pieces

Final Verdict

Redgrass Creative expands its RGG360° ecosystem with two new accessory parts. The cork insert may not be necessary for everyone, but the XL caps are a useful addition to the original caps and could even be the superior option for many painters due to their improved ergonomic properties.
