My quest to build a complete terrain collection for Warcry, Spearhead, and Warhammer Age of Sigmar continues. In this post, I’m showing the latest additions: the wooden platform from the Varanite Camp in Warcry: Red Harvest.
My Warcry terrain collection mainly consists of the Azyrite Ruins from the starter set, so I wanted to add some variety with the tower from the Varanite Syphon Camp from Red Harvest. Visually, it fits well, as it’s built on ruins with similar architecture, and the multi-level structure adds a more dynamic, three-dimensional element to gameplay.

How to paint the Red Harvest tower
When Garfy painted his Red Harvest set (be sure to check out his post on it here), I remember him complaining about how time-consuming the metal fittings were. So, I planned how to paint these quickly and efficiently in advance.

I started by spraying the entire model with Colour Forge Hyrax Brown [which matches Rhinox Hide]. Then, I stippled the fittings with diluted Vallejo Model Color Burnt Red [similar to Rhinox Hide mixed with Mephiston Red], Two Thin Coats Fur Brown [similar to Tuskgor Fur], and TTC Iron Oxide [Fire Dragon Bright]. I dry-brushed the edges with Vallejo Mecha Color Dark Steel [or Leadbelcher] and touched up any mistakes with Rhinox Hide. For the wooden planks, I alternated washes between Pro Acryl Black Wash [or two coats of Nuln Oil], Wyldwood, and Basilicanum Grey. I added algae effects with diluted TTC Jade Green [Kabalite Green] and dry-brushed the wood with Gorthor Brown and P3 Beast Hide [Baneblade Brown]. All very time-efficient!
For the pieces of Azyrite Ruins – there’s a painting guide for those in this post. With the platform and additional ruins, about two-thirds of my collection is complete, so stay tuned for the full board reveal soon here on Tale of Painters!
