Of course I will get one of the beautiful new Fire Prism/Nightspinner kits. I really like how they completely rethought the shape of the turret, more in line to the Forgeworld Mark II kits.
However I’m not sure on the long barreled Prism Cannon, so I quickly threw together this little piece of photoshop work. I removed the barrel and shortened the crystal at the front. Of course I wouldn’t left the crystal parts clear but paint them. I’d also use the short antenna from the Wave Serpent sprue instead of the one that comes with the kit. What do you think?

I think it is a lot bette looking then the actual model in my opinion. sure your selling yourself short a little but when was the last time you where out of range with your 60"Prism cannon?
Might even be tempted to buy a FP instead on converting my own now I've seen this 🙂
Thanks for your comments!
I think I have to wait until I hold the models in my hands and see.
I think I prefer the look of the longer barrel, but to each his own. One thing to consider in gaming terms is that by shortening the barrel, you're selling yourself short. Range shooting from the vehicle is measured from the tip of the weapon, so you'll not shoot quite as far as the standard model, and I believe shooting at a vehicle is measured to it's hull. So, effectively, long barrels allow you to shoot further without additional disadantage.
Granted, it's a nominal distance, but effectively you're modeling to a disadvantage.
I like it. I too was a bit surprised by the long barrel on the new version, and think your suggestion would be especially good for someone adding one to a force that already had an old one as they wouldn't look too different.
