Out of the recent Apocalypse releases the Khorne Lord of Skulls has to be my favorite. The model I find to be fairly interesting. My only gripe is that I wish that you could use him in regular 40K. Well wishful thinking. The model itself was fairly simple to construct. The parts are relatively large and you have several options for weapons to change etc. You also have 2 head options. I was quite lucky as I picked up both the Lord of Skulls and the Obelisk up quite cheaply. Otherwise the price may have put me off. Anyone else bought the model or even yet used him in a game ?

I actually quite like the bleached look of the skulls.
very awesome job! im not a big fan of the model, i like the top half but think the bottom half with the tracks ruin it. When are you gonna post a tutorial on how you do your awesome airbrush work?!
I have to agree that this is the best painted and color-schemed one I have see and actually makes me like the model!!! Awesome job!!!
I don't get why this model gets so much flakk. Granted, the concept is silly, but the execution (= design and sculpting) is excellent.
The Tesseract Vault on the other hand has a great concept, but the execution is poor: It doesn't look convincingly ripped apart but more like a cake neatly cut in quarters, as as every quarter is identical so they could produce the model with less different sprues. And the walls seem so thin, just as Rhino armour.
I completely agree, I think the model is actually pretty nice. It is strange but belongs to chaos, so I think it works well. And the design is taken from a much older Epic 40K model. So its quite nostalgic in some ways. I like it.
I never liked the model until I saw your paint-job. Now I think it is cool. Good job!
I agree that your paint job does a good job of assisting a kinda stupid model. Maybe the airbrushing is a tad overdone on this one (exacerbated by your camera of course), but it still looks good.
The model on the other hand is just the worst. It looks like they just plunked a space marine onto some tank treads. The mentality here must have been "a berzerker, but bigger?".
The model is weird, if I was designing military weapons I would definitely use this as a design in warfare as it would conquer. I cant see anything that would go wrong. The war would be won. Full stop 🙂
Looks fantastic!
I do think that the skulls will look better with a wash and some highlights,
its the photo. I have glare on the white and it makes it whiter than normal and blurry. I kinda suck when it comes to photos.
TeN, I thought you considered blue glows to be banal? 😉
Great work though. Keep it up?
Garfy.
lol, I take that back. I do use it all the time. Customers seem to like it. I just had enough when painting the last Necron model. After painting legion after legion after legion after legion..Im going to stop, of Necrons with green glowing eyes. I just thought you know what paint it black. But the glow effect is popular.
Holy crap! That is insane, great job! Actually your paint job makes this silly model look way better. There is some over spray around the skulls but overall I really like this model.
Thanks Tim, I did paint him quick as I have other models to work on that are more important for customers. Hes gone basically to ebay for gaming.I still did try to paint him nice though. The white areas on the photos are a bit glare/blurry. The actual thing is more down toned.
It's pretty sweet. Good luck on ebay!
No paint job can make this model look not stupid.
It reminds me of Mek Quake from Ro-Busters 2000AD.
I see what people mean about the skulls. Might benefit from cleaning up the white overspray and a wash of sepia or something, to tone down the monotone white of the skull areas. Still, damn nice work as always 🙂
Even though I am a huge fan of your painting style, I have to agree with hyperion that the skulls are letting the model down: The ones on the dozerblade especially have a rather "spraypainted" look that doesn't fit the high quality of the overall paintjob. I am also not fond of the very light colour of the face, although that might be partly due to the fact that I like the other head design much better.
It's still a great piece, make no mistake, but the treatment of the skulls makes it worse than your usual, brilliant standard.
Even with the paint work, this is still a giant elephant in the room….a complete wasted design effort from GW and a major missed opportunity IMO.
I believe its modeled from a existing epic 40K model from years ago.
Looks ok.
You are realy fast! I do not the the effekt on the skulls – the armor is nice though! Picked one up myself but have not painted it yet. Armor is red but there is plenty to do.
Hey thanks hyperion :)I know its a lame excuse, but the white on the head and the skulls looking bright is more the fault of my camera settings becoming messed up after my wife was using it. I've been trying ever since to try and get it to how it normally was.
