I’ve finished my Venerable Dreadnought. I’m really happy with the final result. More pictures after the jump.
As you can see I’ve sponged on metal chips to the armour and dusted up the feet with some weathering powder. It’s not too much, it doesn’t over power the model but it’s enough to add interest.
I also painted some freehand icons on the shins and one shoulder. These came out really neat. I started by drawing the outline with a sharp pencil and then using watered down Administratum Grey I outlined the shapes before filling them in. Finally I used Ceratite white to highlight the and define the icons.
These are all three of my Dreadnoughts in my army of the Imperium force so far. I think they look great together, even if the Contemptor is sticking out like a sore thumb. Not sure what’s next. So which this space.

Really cool work here, the marking is very well made. The 1st legion can be proud of your paintjob!
I like the "walking cathedral/temple" looking 🙂
Lovely as always, although that said about the icon in the middle of the panel did not stop you weathering the Blood Angel Death Co one on his shin! Cant wait to see whats next
Inconsistent battle damage… whatever next.
beautifully done, Garfy. That's genuine tweaker status getting that icon so symmetrical!
That came out nice. I do think the decal could use some scratches and chipping to fit in with the rest of the paint job.
I tried to chip in realistic places. Like the edges and corners. All the icons are in the middle of panels. Excessive chipping would look wrong in my minds eye. I didn't want to over power it.
P.S. It's not a decal ;0)
Great freehand then 🙂
