I’m really happy with the finished Eversor Assassin. I love the contrast between his red weapons and armour and his dark blue skin suit. I’m pleased with the glowing blue areas. I think the glowing blue eyes shows he fights for good. Red eyes have an evil connotation. More pictures after the jump.
These pictures are quite large and I think my paint job holds up quite well to close scrutiny. This new found love or taking my time and trying to do the best I can is partly attributed to following Stahly’s work ethic for the past few years.
I think I pride myself on my photography more than my painting now. I’ve been looking at ways to improve my photography quality recently and I’ve discovered Luminance in the image editing software. I’ve always found my DSLR Canon 7D to be a bit grainy and noisy. Luminance goes such a long way to reducing that noise.
So, one more Assassin left to paint. I think I’ll try to finish it by next week. Watch this space.
Love the model. I just have to ask – Why do so many people insist on painting the edge of the base any other colour that black? I know it's the GW way, but it just draws focus away from the models.
The bromance is real. You and Stahly both do great work!
Looks very good, i like the suit alot. However the metals have a dull base with thick highlights of bright silver making them look boring and lazy imo. Some of the red highlights are very large but it does add a cartoony/comic feel to the model.
Thanks for the observations. I agree, the silver highlights do look big in these huge pictures and a little untidy. Any advice on how to fix it?
As someone who does the exact same thing as you, I would say "leave it, it looks like 'Eavy metal painting (just better), which is what we want to see". But I do see two ways to "fix" it, if you really want to do that. 1. Is to make sure to finish off with a final glaze over everything so the transition between dull dark metal and bright shiny metal isn't a seen. 2. is to stop using wash to darken metal (Which is what I'm guessing is the dulling effect). Now this is a close up, and I honestly think that it would be a huge chore for very little effect if you did either of those things – it looks great!
Anyway – on seeing as metal painting is arguably the hardest thing to get "right", I would like to refer you to this guy http://www.jrn-works.dk/ . He has won countless golden daemons and a few slayer swords, and I think alot of it is due to his amazing metallic metals. There are a few tutorials on his site on that matter.
Thanks for following the tips
I love the blue glow on the eyes, what colors did you use for the OSL?
Pretty sure there's a tutorial on that here. I think its the Necron lord tutorial.

Awesome paintjob, I love it! I have a question: how did you paint the brown metallic structure of the base? Thank you! 🙂
Love the paintjob. Very Garfy in a way 😉 I think the eyes will look fine at an arm length; sometimes our super clear macro pictures are bit misleading of how the models look in real life.
Looks awesome. Definately has a Marvels Deadpool vibe to it.
This model is really good, but if you want to improve on future models, I'd say the eyes look a little off. Glow effects are really hard to do when they are set against a bright surface, in this case the skull helmet he has. It looks kind of like he has blue warpaint around his glowing eyes. Might be that we are viewing the model much larger than it actually is. I think if the area around the eyes were just bone colored it would be fine. Because the eyes still look like they are glowing.
Na I love it the way it is. Thanks for taking the time to offer your opinion.
I think I have to agree with the poster above. The eyes do throw the model somewhat and distract from the paintjob overall. I think it would have looked better without the excessive blue.
Looks badass!
I really like the mini and the way you painted it, by the way: all of them. Concerning photography I also learned the hard way of how to produce acceptable pictures…. Jeep up Great work.
I've really enjoyed learning how to take professional photographs with a dedicated flash photography set up. It's come in handy for my day job.
very nice
those eyes give me chills
Look good in blue. Better than red imo.
Looks great as always! If I may ask, how did you get that bone to look flawless? Everytime I try and paint a skull it ends up with clear deliniations, even after trying to blend with really thin (practically watery) layers. Thanks, and keep up the great work!
You need to start with the mid colour (Karak Stone) and then glaze down to Gorthor Brown, then glaze up throgh Ushabti Bone and into pure white for the edge/pin highlights.
thank you so much!
Don't ever pit your painting down!
Your photography, however, is really standing up in quality to supreme close ups.
I'm not putting it down as such. I just feel like the model is good but the photography is what I really pride myself onThe entire model is focus, correctly colour balanced, perfect whites, no shadows and now it's not grainy/noisy anymore. This makes me happier than a good paint job at the moment.
