I have been messing around with this model and the Lord of Skulls for about a week now. Its quite relaxing really. Wandering around doing this and that. Especially when the weather at night has been so hot. Drinking a damn lot of beer and being lazy. Basically that’s it. Beer, late night and the moon plus some films and music etc to entertain. Watched Prometheus and Alien again and have been copying color schemes. My wife so far hates this model. Not the paint job just the model. Other than that I like the Obelisk. I left off the bottom stick on bits. Largely due to them most likely breaking off during gaming. What do you think?

Fantastic paint effect. It just screams Necron to me.

Hey thanks Tony 🙂
U are true master on black and white as can be seen on many of your models. Is there chance we will see any tutorial from you?I really like your style and would "kill" for a chance to se how you work step by step;-)
I am so glad amazing painters like you also get a bit lazy because of the heat. Gives me some hope, haha.
Enjoy your movie nights with plenty of beer, those models aren't going anywhere!
But I am looking forward to see both the Obelisk and the C'Tan completed. That "Dirty-white" look is amazing and it's still such an early WIP.
ThirdEyeNuke,
You asked what do we think and well i am inclined to be honest about my opinion. This is a start. There is a long way to go on this model. If you truly want this to be an excellent model that we all go WOW about, then you really gotta step up your game. That said, this hobby is YOURS. My opinion really shouldn't matter. Its art and only the artist who painted it can say when it is truly done and when it has accomplished what he has set out to do.
The problem you've got here is that your paintjob is actually washing out some of the visual interest on the model.
Ok so…what to do? More color. What you've got here is a black and grey model with some white airbrushed on for highlights. Why not bring in some more color? I am thinking some greens and blues or something. Something to add to the ickyness and make the paintjob more interesting. You could airbrush translucent layers of greens (like try rotting flesh or even sea greens) in selected spots. nothing too stark, but some to add visual interest.
Then I would do some outlining with a traditional brush. Define those edges and shapes better
Think about how you can build visual interest and apply it and you'll have much better figs.
Hi Tim, Thanks for your comments and visual ideas. As stated above it is just work in progress, and by the time I show it as showcase it will probably change a fair bit.
Word. Can't wait to see more from you in the future. I hope you dont take my comments as discouraging. We're all painters who are on a never-ending journey of improvement and progress. I'm just the guy who tries to be critical so that we can get better. My blog has lots of pics of my work and I often find it tough to get critical feedback from people. Most of the time it is positive comments, which is nice, but it doesnt help you get better. so I comment in the way I would want others to comment on my stuff – critically but i hope friendly and constructive. I also believe in your ability so that is why I might be a little tough.
Hey Tim, I'm pretty thick skinned….Adamantium 🙂
I really love the creapy blackness of it… really reminds me of the aliens and the prometheus movies (especially the latter – in a good way!)
Hi Jan, Thanks for the comments. I'm a big fan of those movies and have been looking a lot at the art work recently. I'm a huge fan of Geigers work for the original Aliens.
I look forward to seeing this finished.
WIP as in it is now done?
I like the model, but the paint is a bit bland for such an expensive kit IMO.
You've done an amazing job on the weathering though.
Hi Kriswithak, Yes wip as in work in progress. Its not finished.
What "spots"? Do you mean the Canoptek Leech's power source?
Looking awesome. Especially with those glossy black "spots". Very creepy, like lifeless bug-eyes… *shudder* 🙂
