A very quick and dirty WIP shot of my Imperial Knight. Just the base colours and a little shading and highlighting applied using my airbrush. Eagle eyed readers will remember that I said I was going to paint to 40 Gretchen next… well they’re still going ahead. I was base coating the Gretchen so I thought while the airbrush was loaded with black undercoat spray I’d undercoat my Knight, one thing led to another and I ended up with this! Really interested with how you've done this I think it's going to look great. I've just finished my Hawkshroud model using standing brushing…which was challenging and probably no way near your level of expertise! However if you fancy, the WIP shots can be found here: http://hoardofhordes.blogspot.co.uk/2014/05/imperial-knight-phase-3.html. Can't wait to see the finished article.
Looking good. I'm working on the same house, but my airbrush it out of commission, so I'm hand brushing ….. kill me now
Looking great. What is the other color going to be?
Thanks dude, Hawkshroud is a yellow and black halved scheme with one white shoulder pad. The skeletal frame metallics will be really dark, whilst the armour trim will be a bright silver.
I would love if you could do a more detailed guide on a yellow knight, as I'm planning on doing one in full imperial fists regalia soon 🙂
Sorry there won't be a more detailed tutorial. You can get advice and guidance from my how to paint Ultramarine Vehicles in the links in the first post. Just change the colours for Yriel Yellow and Skrag Brown 🙂
Thanks for the links on your reviews of the air brushes I was looking at ones nearly 3 times the price. But will give them a go, and see how it comes out.
Loving the yellow as well.
Just looking at all the yellows makes me intimidated. I assume going with a regular brush would have caused all kinds of problems. A yellow color scheme is probably something I'll try to avoid for the time being.
How was the coverage when using your airbrush?
All the armour panels were undercoated white separately (they're not glued in place in the photo). Coverage was superb. I basecoated with Yriel Yellow, then shaded the gaps with Skrag Brown, then used Ceramite White to area highlight. Finally I did a light misting of Yriel Yellow to tie it all together. Gives nice soft, convincing results.
I'm planning on painting all the icons by hand which is going to be really time consuming, so the airbrush helps me out timewise but on these large flat areas gives me superior results. Certainly the right tool for the job on this one.
