Hey guys, I’ve finished the Thunderfire Cannon over the weekend. It’s quite a big chunk of metal, but I tried to break the metal areas up by adding subtle hues with washes. It’s hard to notice on the picture above but under proper lighting it should become visible. Next up is the Techmarine. He will get a classic all red armour. He is pretty detailed, and with all the arms of his servo harness I guess he will take as long to paint as the Cannon, if not longer… How do you like the cannon so far?

It's looking great, Stahly. I've wanted to get this model and add the piece to my army in the past, but at around $80, I've always cringed at the price-tag… Some day I'll have to break down and pick one up.
Great job on the metallics and those blue armor panels!
Where is the base you used for the Thunderfire Canon coming from? Is it the original one from GW or something else? I'm asking that cause a) it's the first time I see it based and b) I do own a Thunderfire Canon but no base were provided, so I was wondering. Thanks for your answer 🙂
It's custom made. I sawed a 60 mm base in two halves, then used 2 20 mm to lenghten it and plasticard and green stuff to cover any gaps.
Thanks for the answer. Was really curious about it 🙂
Thanks a lot for the answer. Was really curious about it.
Ah okay, thanks for the tip!
Looks great! The highlights on the metal work really make the cannon pop!
Do you have any tips for someone who's working on more precise highlights? EG: trying to paint a finer highlight line?
I'd recommend getting a decent brush, I swear by Winsor & Newton Series 7 brushes. I use mine for highlighting work only though. I mainly use a rather small brush, as far as I remember a size 00 of their Series 7 M (M has shorter bristles for more brush control), but this is personal preference.
