Hey all, today I thought I’d show the finished Khorne Kytan Daemon Engine that I showed as WIP last week.
I’m really happy with how he turned out. It was nice to paint a second time as I was able to make a few small changes in which I was not happy with the original one I painted a few months ago. I still kept the armour on the crotch area (it’s suppossed to be on his rear) as I prefer it this way. I also went with a far brighter red and tried to play with contrast. The metallic parts are painted using Vallejo liquid gold. The Vallejo liquid colours are nice to use especially on larger models as they really stand out. What do you think?

Really, REALLY, love your gritty style. Its GOD DAMN amazing!
Any chance you can remember the recipe for your reds you used on earlier models (Khorne Raptors, Blood Crushers, even World Eater Rhinos). They look even more washed-out/weathered than these ones. Love that gritty look.
Any chance you could do a step by step how you did the reds. I know you put the colors above, but what order did you do it. Phil
Phil, as I recall it started of with a black undercoat, then I used vallejo fire red as a basecoat, then comm art vermillion, followed by comm art toloudine red, then comm art opaque orange which you use to pick areas of interest. Then I used Vallejo model air skin tone to hit the areas of interest further. Then used comm art to go over this to mellow everything down. Hope that helps.
Cheers mate. Btw where can I pick up comm art paints in the UK?
You can get them here http://www.graphicair.co.uk/categories/Airbrush-Paint/ComArt-Paints/
I really like this Kytan. What's your recipe for gold mate? It's so smooth and shiny.
Its just Vallejo Liquid Gold. You thin it with mineral spirits, which you can pick up in a pharmacy. Then used Vallejo model air to edge highlight and burnt umber oil washes on the rivets etc. Link below..

Garfy, I forgot to mention. If you use it, use cheap brushes as it will eat them up. You don't want to use nice brushes with this stuff.
Hell that red is really "shiny"! How?!? Com-Art?
Hey Andrea, yep, that's Toulone comm art, vermillion and orange. Along with Vallejo fire red as a base and freshly sacrifised squirrel blood 🙂
Its okay if i use some human blood? Squirrel are less RUDE than some people…
Yes humans are fine, the more rude the better 🙂
I think your painting has gotten better. Sometimes the neutral gray/black/white palette blends in with the base/miniature a bit much, but guess what?, that's your style. Your style looks great!
Looks really bad, you really need to start using new colors. It needs more detail. I cant believe people like this. Really stop painting, your not very good.
I don@t know how to reply to that. Maybe I'll try harder !!!!
Wow, could you be any more rude? Clearly a troll post anyway, impressive paint work.
I'm sure he could be way more rude. Honestly, I do agree with some of that (definitely not with things like "stop painting") but it does look pretty basic. All the gold is flat and a lot of details are missing. It is solid painting and a lot of people would struggle to get it to look like it does, but I can't say it's in any way impressive. It's basic tabletop to me. Don't take this as an insult Thirdeye, I have a lot of respect for your work. I just find your models inconsistent in quality sometimes.
Uruk, why not suggest some tips and advice to ThirdEyeNuke to consider. That way your criticism would be useful and constructive. Because I read your comment and it has no value to him. All you're saying is you don't like it. You're entitled to say that. You're not being insulting or rude.
Thanks Uruk 🙂
Superb as always, the brighter red really makes a difference!
Looks fantastic. Owen
That's a damn impressive piece of work.
That's some beautiful work. The red is really nice.
