Hey everyone, Silvernome here back with more Chaos Legion goodness!
I’ve always been a fan of the Chaos Legions, but since I mostly play Death Guard and Thousand Sons I never really have had the chance to paint the other Legions without building out a force. I’ve always had a soft spot for dreadnoughts, they are just so iconic to Warhammer, so I decided to start collecting Contemptor Dreadnoughts from each legion to give me that chance to paint them all. When I’ve eventually collected and painted them, the grand plan is to make a small diorama to show them off.
My third dread in the series is the Iron Warriors. As I shared in the Death Guard post, I fully magnetized the dread (you can find my quick tutorial on the Brookhammer website) so I could hot-swap weapons on them all. I also magnetized the feet of the dread so when I eventually do a diorama, it can look at home on that display as well as a base themed for my army.
I’ve always loved the look of the Iron Warriors units, clad in raw iron and bright chevrons. An army that is easy to paint quickly to get on the table, but more interesting if you take the time to call out some details. For this guy, I wanted to use a buffable Dark Iron color from Mr. Metal Color. It’s such an interesting paint to work with, where you actually buff the paint after it dries to see it shine more. The rest of the metallics were Gunmetal and Steel from Vallejo. Yellows are all GW yellows (averland/flash gitz). Slight weathering with pigments too. I may go back to distress the chevrons a bit, undecided.

That looks great, its a great sculpt. I might have been tempted to pose the HB to point towards where he is looking, but the final shot above helps sell the idea of his striding out pose the first picture doesn't do justice. Lovely details and the chevrons look great, maybe a slightly more warmer yellow (imho) if you are going back, an Agrax or Sepia wash? But looks fab as is!
Cheers! Plus the HB is magnetized, so I can pivot it a bit to help sell the direction more (or swap it out for another weapon).
Ah brilliant, yeah great job mate.
