I have posted this army before in the past, I wanted to share it again because I’ve spent the past three nights rebasing the whole force. Originally I had snow bases with black rims. I’ve wanted to rebase the models for a while now so I’m pleased I have finally found the time to do it. Lots of close up pictures after the jump.
It’s so cool that they match my Ultramarine army now, I feel my Apocalypse Ultramarine army has just grown by 1500pts.
Grey Knight Terminator Brother Captain
Grey Knight Dreadknight
Grey Knight Contemptor Pattern Dreadnought
Grey Knight Storm Raven
Grey Knight Interceptor Squad
Grey Knight Terminator Squad
Grey Knight Strike Squad
Grey Knight Purgation Squad
This is easily the best painted army I’ve ever painted, now I’ve changed the bases. I’m really pleased I took the advice of others and ditched those awful snow bases for a base which contrasts with the armour. That’s one of the things I love about Tale of Painters, you can usually get a great piece of advice in the comments section. It takes a lot of guts to go back on what you thought was right and change it. In this case you can totally see it was worth it. My photography is getting better and better as well and these models look clean and bright on my screen.
If you’d like to know how I painted my Grey Knights check out this detailed tutorial.
Wow, great looking models! The blue tint to the armour really helps bring out the psychic essence of the grey knights. A bit off topic, but how do you guys take such clear photos of models? I would really like to post some of my models on my blog, but the pictures I take don't seem to do them justice.
I have a mini photography studio at home. It's quite expensive even though it's budget equipment. I have the Interfit ex150 flash light kit with umbrella and soft box a canon EOS500D and several lens's. I use a grey card and custom white balance to make sure I get good whites. I also do a small amount of post production on the pictures to make sure the whites and white and the blacks are black.
They are still beautiful, but contrary to others i was much fan of the snow bases, and i find the new brown bases a bit bland (i know the contrast thing and so on, but no matter)
Beautiful work, Garfy. What did you use to write the text on the banners on those Terminators? I'm working on my first Grey Knights guys (you can see here) and have been mucking that up over and over. Nothing is thin enough!
Your grey knight model looks awesome. The only advice I can give is use Rhinox hide for scroll text and thin your paints so it flows from the brush easier. Brush care is important to. Always train your brushes to keep a sharp tip.

The new bases really do make them stand out more. I was just having another look at your tutorial the other day and considered taking the plunge with Grey knights.
Garfy, I like these so much better now. IMO, the bluish-silver hues of the GK work better with brownish bases as opposed to white because of the better contrast. Nicely done.
Great! This army is just absolutely great.
This is really beautiful work .. awesome!
Next project needs to be a battle board dude. all your bases match would be amazing to see and play on. a desert with sunken bunkers and patchy grass and sand dunes. hell yeah!
It's funny you mention that. I'm trying to decide what my 2014 project should be and heavily converted realm of battle board with option for armies on display entry had entered my mind. My thinking is abandoned adeptus mechnicus outpost that have uncovered a necron city. I can buy lots of tanks and convert them into mining machinery. Then next years armies on display board could be a mechanicus themed board section.
Yes please!
Seconded!
