Hi guys, next up is Chief Librarian Tigurius for my Ultramarines. I remember the model got a lot of flakk when it was released, but I really don’t know why. I love this sculpt. It’s got a defensive pose, but there is a lot of tension when you look at the creases in the tabbard and how they are mimicked in the banner.
As you might notice, I painted the armour in a slightly darker shade of blue to set the Librarian’s traditional blue armour apart from my other blue marines. I won’t go for a yellow tabbard though, that’s a bit too 90s 😉 The banner and the shoulder guards are going to be painted in my regular Ultramarines paint scheme. What do you think so far?

About to paint a Terminator Librarian myself, and I love your blue – very crisp highlights. Can you share which paints you used for the armor?
I used a black primer, the main colour is Kantor Blue (leaving black in the recesses) mixed with a little bit of black paint, then old Mordian Blue for the first highlight (Macragge Blue should work, too) and finally Calgar Blue.
Thanks for sharing. 🙂
Hm… like the darker blue hue. Regal Blue hardedged with Ultramarine and Ice Blue (new color names respective)?
The biggest knock against Tigurius is simply that they replaced a classic 2nd model by Jes Goodwin that didn't need an update with a far less elegant one. All they needed to do was throw a new style backpack in the blister and job's a good un.
That and the head really looks weird, I really look forward to seeing how you paint it and if you manage to make it look good !
Always interesting to see how other people work. I love that your khaki is so sloppy in the places where it doesn't matter. Sometimes I get too worried about keeping junk like that clean and it ends up taking way more time than it needs to.
Also interesting you've already done your edging at this point, as that's usually my absolute last step.
I love the 90's look. You should have done the yellow tabard!
Will we be seeing some freehand on the banner mate?
I guess I have to, oh my why doesn't it have a sculpted banner?
I too also would like to know how you are doing the robes/cloth
Really cool, what's the colour of the clothes?
Yep, the same question from me)
They will be a regular khaki like on my other Marines, see my Terminators for example: http://taleofpainters.blogspot.de/2011/12/showcase-ultramarines-close-combat.html
Well done!!!
Looking good Stahly. Your Ultramrine painting method is my absolute favorite as the result is not too shiny or bright.
