Today on the blog I revisit my half finished Ork Dreadnought. More pics after the jump.
I last posted an update to this project on the 16th of May. Just over a month later I’ve returned to finish off this project. Progress so far is going well, the tricky parts (the greenstuff banner and the pilot) are painted. Having seen Games Workshop release the incredible Gorkanaut this month it really goes to show how far the company has come in 20 years. This smallish sized metal Dread used to be the centre piece of the Ork range back in the 90s, now it’s no bigger than a Killer Kan which people take three of and they’re not even the centre pieces! I think Ghazkull is bigger than this model!
What do you think so far? Do you think I should weather the Deffdread or leave it factory clean?

This is awesome mate excellent work
At the moment i think it looks brillant, but could you add some checkerboard on it ? 2nd edition orks (Goffs) without weathering is an heresy 😎
Keep the good work Garfy !
I'd say keep him looking retro, but with just a tiny bit of weathering. I really like how he looks so far, especially the light on the Orks Eye and the banner. Cool stuff.
Subtle weathering seems the best option. Watch this space.
Leave it Ork factory clean…. pretty sure on Ork factory is not very clean, or do they build it in their own personal workshop/scrapyard.
Maybe a few greasy hand prints on the banner and lots of lubricants, if its still "new".
I would say weather it as you have done the axes of the ork boyz, but keep most of it factory clean in the old-school style of painting. Looks awesome so far!
I'd do a small amount of weathering, as the smaller Orks/Grots aren't perfectly clean either. Just a few chips and maybe a tiny bit of rust and/or dust for flavor. Looks really sharp, loving the retro project 🙂
It's should match the other Orks and Grots, so some weathering (or at least rusty bitz and some gore on the Klaws) should be dones or it will look out of place.
Bright and clean! That's how it used to be 🙂
Its a 2nd edition project. Factory clean! Weathering didn't exist at 2nd…
By this logic you simply MUST paint the edge of the base Goblin Green Grafy … do eeeet! 😉
Lol, I'm not giving it a goblin green base, if I was to be truly authentic I shouldn't have even given it a base! 😉
Definitely weather it. An Ork vehicle is NEVER factory clean
