Update on Marneus. I painted the base, the banner and worked on the original paint job. I refined the highlights, especially on the blue armour, and repainted a couple of details. For example, his left shoulder guard to be just gold, which looked a bit boring, now I picked out the laurels with white and the skull with silver.

Next up is the freehand on his banner, which is based on his classic banner design with the crossed power fists. I scanned the line art from 2nd Edition Codex Ultramarines and printed it on decal paper. Now it’s like painting by numbers 😉 It really helps to get the proportions right. I even bent the design a little bit in Photoshop to match the flow of the banner. Can’t wait to get him finished. What do you think, is this cheating at painting freehands?
