This Necron Lord is the third unit I’ve completed for the Tale of the Mega Painters project. It took around 20 hours to paint, mainly because I was photographing each step as I went along for tutorials.
More angles after the jump.
If you’d like to know how I painted this model then check out these links. The first tutorial will be how I painted the model. Thesecond tutorial will be how to paint the blade.
I want my HQ to stand out so I thought it would be a good idea to use some more advanced techniques like NMM style blades, glow effect (OSL), rust and weathering powders. My favourite part is the Galaxy he is holding in his hand. I was just going to paint this as a glowing blue orb, but he has enough of those already so i wanted to do something different. I haven’t seen this idea done before (apart from the film Men in Black).
Check back over the next few days to see the detailed and comprehensive tutorials on how to paint this model.
Hi Matthew, thanks for the kind words. Glad we inspire you. The model is the plastic lord from the catacomb command barge.
I may be blind, stupid or both, but I can't figure out where you can find this figure. It's a conversion, right?
Terrific, terrific stuff chaps. I'm recently back into the hobby after a couple of years out, and stumbled across your blog. I now consider it an authority. I have started work on Necron and Dark Eldar battle forces entirely because of your work.
Garfy, do you know what kit the skull you used on the base came from?
Skeleton Warriors box set.
it is a really simply painted but very beautiful mini. the blade looks great, and the galaxy thing is just AWESOME.
I am looking forward for the tutorials 🙂
lol I totally see what you did there with that Dark Eldar helmet 😉
Hehe, thought you'd like that 🙂
blown away by this mate. definitely need to see the steps. it does sicken me that you appear to be getting even better at this.
I'll give you a personal masterclass round mine any time mate, but you got to teach me some 3D drawing 😉
My favourite part is the Galaxy in his hands too. What a coinkidink aye? This is brilliant. Looking forward to seeing tutorials.
Nice work on it, and cannot wait for the step by step, especially for the blade and globe(?) sections 🙂
