Rhinos are my favourite vehicles, just about beating the older Sentinel model. In this post I’ll show my two Alpha Legion Deimos pattern Rhinos for my grower Horus Heresy force.

Which one is Alpharius and which one is Omegon? While the paintwork is basically the same, I wanted a few differences to be visible between the Rhinos to make it easier when playing to tell them apart. The big dozer blade is borrowed from the Astra Militarum Tank Accessories kit, and I threw on a havoc launcher as well.

The weathering takes my Alpha Legion from being factory fresh to being in the middle of the war for Terra. I sponged Rhinox Hide and then Stormcast Silver onto most exposed edges, which are naturally where paint will get worn off. I then used a couple of thinned layers of Agrax Earthshade as both rust and streaks on the big doer blade, and the rear ramp.

I wanted to try something a bit different for a scenic photo, so went for a wider angle shot. When taken close up this brings in a lot of the background, and adds space between models. I set up the buildings to look like a ruined town, with the Alpha Legion armoured vehicles advancing with an infantry guard around them. Red and orange sidelights add a bit of interest, and a black background gives a vague feeling of being nighttime if you don’t look too closely! I would have liked to use a photo backdrop, but don’t have any of these yet sadly.
